TICKET BOOK.
Application filed November 24, 1928. Serial No. 321,530.
This invention relates to ticket books particularly of the type used in fund-raising cam; paigns and which comprise a plurality oi leaves each comprising a stub portion and a detachable ticket, the various tickets having different inscriptions and the ticket and stub being so connected that the inscriptions of all the tickets are invisible until the ticket is detached.
One object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved ticket book of this character wherein the various leaves are irmly secured together and the detachable ticket portion firmly attached tothe stub portion so as to avoid accidental detachment of the ticket portions during handling ofthe book and yet permit easy detachment when such is desired.
Other objects are to provide such a book including a plurality of such leaves and a cover, the leaves being secured together and in the cover in a novel and improved manner; to provide a leaf for such abook embodying novel and improved features of construction and including two spaced permanent stub portions and a ticket portion detachably secured to both said stubs and having an extension arranged between said permanent stubs and detachably secured thereto; to provide a ticket book comprising a plurality of such leaves secured together and in a cover by fastening means passing through all of the permanent stub portions at the end thereof opposite the ticket portion; to provide-such a book wherein the fastening means for the leaves consist of four staples, two of which pass through each ot' the permanent stub portions with one ar ranged substantially parallel to the transverse end of the stub portion and the other substantially parallel to the ticket extension, and to obtain other advantages and results as will be brought out by the following description.
Referring to the accompanaying drawings, in which corresponding and like parts are designated throughout the several views by the same reference characters,
Figure l is a plan view of a ticket book embodying my invention;
Figure 2 is a similar View showing the cover folded back to admit of the tickets being removed from the book, and
Figure 3 is a composite view showing the manner of removal of one of the tickets which is shown as being the last ticket in the book.
Specifically describing the illustrated embodiment of the invention, each leaf of the book comprises a ticket portion l upon which may be printed suitable inscriptions or descriptive matter 2 indicating the character and purpose of the ticket, said ticket portion being integral with two stub portions 3 and t and an extension 5 which projects from one end of the ticket portion on the longitudinal median line thereof and is arranged between said stub portions. For the purpose of enabling detachment of the ticket portion from the stub portion, the leaf may be scored as at 6 and 7. Atthe extreme end of the ticket extension 5 opposite the ticket l is provided a suitable inscription 8, such as the price at which the ticket is to be sold.
A plurality of the leaves are arranged in superposed relation and secured together at the ends opposite the ticket portions l by any suitable means passing through the stub portions 3 and 4, As shown, the fastening means comprise two pairs of staples 9, 10 and ll, l2, and one of each pair of staples, in the present instance the staples 9 and ll, are arranged substantially parallel to the transverse ends of.
the leaves, while the other staples 10 and l2 of each pair are arranged substantially parallel to the ticket extension 5.
For the purpose of normally hiding or covering the inscription 8, the leaves have preferably secured thereto a cover 13, and the same staples 9, 10, l1 and 12 may be utilized for securing the 'cover to the book of leaves. Nith this construction it will be observed that each ticket portion l may be separated or detached from its corresponding stub portions 3 and 4t by a firm pull upon the free end of the ticket portion at the point 14, as by gripping the leaf between the thumb and foreiinger. then such a pull is exerted, t-he ticket portion is separated fromthe stub portions along the lines `of scoring 6 and 7, and the ticket extension 5 is thus pulled from beneath the cover portion and the inscription 8 thereby made visible. rlhe cover continues to overlie and obscure the inscription 8 on the uppermost remaining leaf.
It will be observed that the strain imposed upon the scored lines 6 are resisted by the staples 9 and 1l, while the strain on the scored lines 7 are resisted by the staples l() and l2. The ticket extension 5 is free from the staples throughout its length and thus can be easily pulled outwardly after the ticket portion is detached along the scored lines. It will also be noted that the ticket portion is at all times iirmly secured to the stub portions against accidental detachment, and the stub portions are iirmly secured together and to the cover by the staples.
The two stub portions 3 and 4f may be utiliZed for any suitable purpose, for example the stub portion 3 may be adapted to receive the name of the purchaser of the corresponding ticket portion l, while the stub portion 4c may be used to receive the name of the sales-' man or person to whom a vote is to be given, or for any other desired purpose. The construction enables a ticket to be withdrawn from any part of the book, and all of the stubs are retained after all ol' the tickets have been withdrawn.
To further reenforce the book, the cover is preferably in one piece, having the top portion 13 and bottom portion 16, which receive the leaves between them'.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
l. A ticket book comprising a plurality of superposed leaves each includingl a pair of spaced stub portions at one end and a ticket portion at the otherend having an extension disposedbetween said stub portions and bearing an inscription, said ticket portion and its extension being detachably connected to said stub portions, a cover for said leaves, and means for securing said cover to said lea-ves and said leaves together with a portion of said cover permanently overlying and obscuring from view said inscription on said ticket exten-sion, whereby said ticket extension will f be pulled from beneath said cover when the ticket is detached. s
2. A ticket book comprising a plurality of superposed leaves each being divided by scored lines into a pair of spaced stub portions at one end and a ticket portion at the other end having an extension disposed between said stub portions, said ticket portion and its said extension being detachable from both said stub portions along said scored lines, and means for securing said leaves together with said ticket portion and its eX- tension detachable from said stub portions,
whereby a pull upon the end of the ticket portion opposite said stub portions will detach the ticket.
3. A ticket book comprising a plurality of superposed leaves each being divided by scored lines into a pair of spaced stub portions at one end and a ticket portion at the other end having an extension disposed between said stub portions7 said ticket portion and its said extension' being detachable from both said stub portions along said scored lines, a staple passing through each of said stub portions in a plane parallel to the transverse ends of said stub portions, and otherstaples each passing through said stub portions in planes parallel and adjacent the scored lines between said ticket extension and said stub portions.
4. A ticket book comprising a plurality of leaves each comprising a ticketportion having an integral narrow extension at one end on substantially its longitudinal median line, a pair of stub portions one at each side of saidextension, said ticket portion and its said extension being detachably connected to said stub portions, and means for securing all of said stub portions together.
5. A ticket book comprising a plurality of leaves each comprising a ticket portion having an integral narrow extension at one end on substantially its longitudinal median line, a pair' of stub portions one at each side of said extension, said ticket portion and its said extension being det-achably connected to said stub portions, said extension bearing at its end opposite the body ofthe ticket portion an inscription, a cover permanently overlying said end ot' the extension to obscure said inscription, and means for securing said stub portions of each of said leaves to the corresponding stub portions of the other leaves in superposed book form and for securing said cover to said stub portions, whereby said ticket portion can be pulled from beneath` said cover to expose said inscription as the ticket portion is detached troni said stub portions.
