Application. filed November 22, 19556.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in files, and particularly to the class of devices known as stick files.
Stick files are ordinarily manufactured in two forms, one for use on a desk, or table, and known as an upright file, and the other adapted to hang on a wall, with the stick or pin extending outwardly and upwardly from the base thereof.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a stick file which is capable of easy and quick adjustment, whereby the device may be used, in an up right position, on a desk, or may be used as a wall file.
Another object is to provide novel means for holdingthe base of the stick or pin on the file base, so that said pin may be moved into either of its different positions.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevation oi a stick file made in accordance with the present invention, and in the position when used as an upright or desk file.
Figure 2 is an enlarged vertical sectional view on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an elevation of the device when adjusted for use as a wall file.
Figure 4 is an end view of the flexible arms, showing the position of the tabs 15.
Referring particularlyto the accompanying drawing, 10 represents a base, which is of the ordinary upwardly tapering type, and preferably formed oi cast metal. In the upper face, or table 11, of the base, there is formed an opening 12, which registers with the opening 13, in the angular Ushapod spring member 1 1, to receive a rivet 15, by means of which the parts are firmly fixed together. Formed on the opposite edges of the arms of the Ell-shaped member 141- are the angularly extending tabs 15, which are spaced apart for a purpose which will presently appear. In the center of each of the said. arms, or wings, there is formed a small circular opening 16. Disposed within the space between the arms of the member 1a an angular block 17, having the trunnions 18 on opposite sides, which engage inthe before-mentioned openings 16, and on which said block is adapted to have pivotal movement. Secured in the upper face of the Serial 1T0. 149,988.
By means of the construction above described, the one-stick file is capable of use in either of the positions in which such files are used. The change from one position to the other may be efiected without any offort on the part of the user, and without the use of any bolts or nuts, or adjusting screws, the pin being grapsed and swung to the desiredposition while at the same time the user spreads the arms of the member 14 apart to permit the block to clear the tabs 15. The base is provided with an opening 20, adjacent its periphery, to permit passage oi a nail, or other device, for suspending the device on the wall.
What is claimed is:
1. A stick file including a base, gripping jaws mounted on the base, and an impaling pin having a base member disposed between and movably connected with the jaws whereby to permit movement of the pin to extend longitudinally "from the jaws, at times, and transversely thereof, at times,
said jaws being adapted to positively hold said base member in such positions.
2. A stick file including a base, spring jaws on the base, an impaling pin having an angular base pivotally supported between the jaws, said jaws being formed to hold the base of the pin so that the later will extend longitudinally from the outer ends of the jaws, at times, and transversely of the jaws, at times.
3. it stick file including a-base, spring jaws on the base having spaced inner and outer tabs on the sidesthereof, and an impaling pin having an angular base pivotally supported between the jaws and arranged to be swung into positions betweenthe tabs whereby the pin extends longitudinally from the ends of the jaws, at times, and to be held between the inner and outer tabs, at times,
whereby the pin extends transversely of said jaws, said aws being manually flexible to permit pivotal movement of the'pin.
4; A stick file including a base,-sp1 ing jaws mounted on the base-and an impaling pin having a base member disposed between and pivotally connected with the jaws and adapted to be held thereby in positions at 'right angles to each other, s aid jawsbeing adapted to be flexed away from each other to permit pivotal movement of the base memher and ilnpaling pin so that thelatter willextend longitudinally from the jaws, at 20 times, and transversely thereof, at times.
In testimony whereof, I a'fhx my slgnature.
