GUS AMSLEB, 9F EHILADELPIIIA. PENNSYLVANIA.
CLUTHES DRIER.
Application filed. April 30, 1924. Serial No. 710,025.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Gus AMsLnn, a citizen of the United States. and a resident of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State 0t Pennsylvania. have invented a new and improved Clothes Drier, of which the "following; is a full, clear and exact description.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in clothes driers, and it pertains particularly to that type of clothes driers having a plurality of radially extending arms which may be removed when the device is not in use.
It is a primary object of the invention to provide means tor locking or securing: the radial arms in their clothes-supporting position.
It is a further object of the invention to construct the arms in such a manner that they are bodily removable and capable of support in parallelism with the standard of the clothes drier when not in use.
With the above and other objects in view. reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a clothes drier constructed in accordance with the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a detail transverse sectional view of a portion of the drier;
Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the locking mechanism;
Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 4.-4L of Fig. 1;
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one of the arms.
Referring more specifically to the drawings, the device comprises a base 6, and projecting from said base and secured thereto as at 7, there is a vertically extending: standard 8. Carried by the upper end of the standard 8. as shown in Fig. 2, there is a head member. This head member comprises a base portion or plate 9 from which projects a socket 10 in which the upper end of the standard 8 is received. Surrounding the base portion 9 there is an annular flange 11, and such annular flange has a plurality of notches 12 in its upper edge. Projecting); upwardly centrally from the base 9 there is a body 13, and such body 13 has at its upper part a plate 13' carrying a depending flange 1 L, notched as at 15. The body 13 depending flange 14 is formed con centric with the flange 11 and is mounted 1nteriorly thereof. Mounted adjacent each of the notches 12 ot the flange 11, there is a swinging hook member 16. pivotally connected to the flange at 1.7. and each of these members has an operatin handle 18.
Referring to Fig. 5, it will be noted that each of the arms comprises a body portion 20 having a reduced extension 21, which reduced extension is again reduced, as at 22, to provide a head 23. In use. the reduced extension 21 ot' the arms is adapted to be received in one of the notches 12 with the reduced portion 22 thereofreceived in one o? the notches 15 heretofore mentioned in the central member. After this has been done the lockinghook member 16 is moved to the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2, where the notch thereof engages the reduced por tion 21 of its respective arm, thus locking the same against accidental displacement.
Carried by the standard 8 there is a disk 25, and such disk 25 has two curved slots 26, in which the reduced portion 22 of the arms is adapted to be received when the arms are not in use. This disk 25 has a squared open inp; 27, which is adapted to receive the standard 8, and the disk is formed with two resilient cars 28. which trictionally engage the standard 8 and provide the means whereby the disk 25 is adjustable vertically of the standard and is maintained in its adjusted position.
From the :l'toreggoino; it is apparent that the present. invention provides a device of this character in which the several arms may be positioned to support clothes or the like, and. at the same time. the arms may be removed and supported in parallelism with the standard in which position they occupy minimum amount of space.
What is claimed is:
In a clothes drier, a standard, a horizontal plate having an upturned head carried by the upper end of said standard, said head comprising a flanged member having notches in the upper edge of the flange and a smaller inverted flanged member positioned within and above the first-mentioned flanged memher, the flange of said second-mentioned flanged member having notches in alinement with the notches oi the flange of the first mentioned flanged member, arms each having a portion adapted to be extended within a notch of the flange of the firstmentioned hinged memher and having :1 reduced portion providing shoulders the reduced portion being received Within a notch of the flange of the second-mentioned flanged memher with the shoulders engaging the same to prevent longitudinal movement of the arm, and pivoted locking members carried by the iilSt-lllfil'ltiOl'lG'd flanged member and adapted to move into engagement with the arms respectively to secure the same against displacement when the arms are positioned in the notches of the first-mentioned flanged member.
