COMBINATION IMPLEMENT.

This invention relates to improvements in combination implements for manicure and like purposes.

The primary object of the invention resides in a combination implement which is substantially flat when not in use to facilitate the convenient carrying of the same in the pocket or handbag of an owner, and which embodies a fiat elongated body having various iii'iplements pivoted thereon for swinging movement, and spring means for normally holding the implements flat upon the body against accidental swinging movements.

Another object is to provide a combination implement which embodies manicuring necessities such as a nail file, finger-nail cleaner, nail and cuticle cutter, and such toilet articles as tweezers, ear cleaner and toothpick.

A further object is the provision of a combination article having implements hingedly connected to an elongated body, and springs stamped from the body for holding the hingedly connected implements either in a folded position when not in use or in extended position for use.

Another object is the provision of a combination article of the kind mentioned which is simple in construction, inexpensive of manufacture, and convenient to carry in the pocket or purse of a user.

lWith these and other objects in view, the invention resides in certain novel construction and combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described, are particularly pointed out in the appended claims, and are illustrated in the accompanying"drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved combination implement.

Referring to the drawing by reference characters, the reference numeral designates my improved combination implement in its entirety which includes an elongated flat metal body 11 which is pointed as at 12 at one end while its opposite end terminates in a concaved bevelled knife edge 13. under the finger nail while the knife edge 13 may serve as a cutting edge for trimming the edge of the finger nail and for scraping the same.

The underside of the body has milled surfaces 14- -14 adjacent and parallel to the 1ongitudinal side edges of the body, which serve as files for use in filing the finger nails, by rubbing the finger nail thereagainst.

A resilient tongue 15 is stamped out of the body 11 adjacent one end thereof while the material adjacent the outer end of the slot is struck up to provide opposed eyes 16 on opposite sides of the slot. A tweezer implement 17 is hingedly mounted within the eyes and has a body section 18 provided with opposed flat trunnions 19 which fit into the eyes 16 to pivot the tweezer for swinging movement. The body section is bifurcated to provide a curved resilient leg 20, and an elongated pointed jaw 21. Pivoted to the jaw 21 as at 22 is a movable jaw 23 having a tail or manipulating portion 24 which is engaged by the free end of the resilient leg by which a tensionis placed on the movable jaw to nor mally hold the same closed against the stationary jaw 21. It will be appreciated that the spring tongue 15 acts upon the end of the base section 18 to maintain the tweezer in a flat position against the elongated body 11, but in use, the tweezer may be swung upon its hinge and as the same passes its vertical center in its swinging movement after having flexed the spring tongue, it is moved to a fully extended position by the action of the tongue to firmly hold the same in a position for operation. By pressing upon the manipulat ing portion 2a of the tweezer, the jaw 23 will open and the part to be squeezed is inserted between the jaws. Upon release of the manipulating portion, the spring leg 20 will force the movable aw into clamping engagement with the stationary jaw.

Resilient tongues 25 are struck out from the body 11 adjacent the pointed end thereof while aligned eyes 26 are punched out of the material adjacent the side walls of the slotsformed by said struck out tongues. An

ear cleaning implement 27 is hingedly mounted. in the walls of one slot while a tooth pick 28 is hingedly mounted in the walls of the other slot and which are acted upon by the respective spring tongues 25 in a manner similar to the tweezer element. The ear cleaning implement includes an elongated bar line/ring a cup 30 on the time and there extended position.

A transverse slot 33 is provided in the body adjacent the pointed end thereof, and has its end wall bevelled to a knife edge, whereby the edge of a finger nail may be inserted and turned to smoothly trim the same.

From the foregoing description, it will be be seen that I have provided a combination manicure and toilet article which may be conveniently carried in the pocket or purse of an owner for instant use, as the same is extremely thin in thickness; The article may be constructed at a low cost as theparts may r all be stamped from blank metal.

While I have described what I deem to be the most desirable embodiment of my invention, it is" obvious that many of the details may be variedfwitho ut in any way departing from the spirit of my. invention, and I therefore do not limit myself to the exact details of construction herein set forth nor to anything less than the whole of my invention limited only by the appended claims.

What is claimed as new is 1. An article of the class described comprising an elongated body, implements hingedly mounted on said body, and resilient spring tongues stamped out of said body and acting upon said implements to hold the same in a folded position flat against said body, or in an extended position beyond the ends thereof.

2. In an article of the class described, a body member, a tweezer element hingedly connected thereto, said tweezcr element including a resilient leg and an integral stationary jaw, a movable jaw pivoted to said stationary jaw, and a nnini mlating portion on said movable jaw engageable with said resilient leg whereby said movable jaw is normally held in clamping engagement with said stationary jaw.

3. In an article of the class described, a flat metal body having a bearing recess in one side thereof, an implement provided with trnnnions seated. in said bearing recess, and a resilient tongue stamped out of said body and overlying said bearing recess to retain the trunnions therein and to hold said implement in a folded position flat against said body, or in an extended )osition for use.
