My invention relates to means for framing wall openings, land particularly to novel means for anchoring metal frames to masonary walls.
It is customary, as disclosed in numerous earlier constructions illustrated in `co-pending applications for patent heretofore iiled by me, to provide a metal buck and to anchor the same to a masonry wall by means of an anchor having a T-head adapted to engage in a slit in the web or back wall of the metal frame member. In constructions `of this character, it is customary to mount wood blocks on the frame members in order to assist in attaching wood trim thereto. In the type of anchor just described, it is essential that the wood nailing blocks be vstaggered relative to the anchors because of the projection of the anchors in the area occupied by the blocks.
In the type of anchor herein disclosed, this difficulty is avoided and the block may be placed exactly at the point where the lugs engage the Vmasonary wall. This. is preferable in order that the shock incident to the closing of doors mounted in the opening shall be directly transmitted to the masonary wall.
The desired result is secured by slitting the tile lugs and constructing the anchors with laterallyY projecting T-headsfadapted to enter the slits. This construction has the advantages already described and in addition serves to hold the lugs securely against the mason ary wall. This is a decided advantage and eliminates the possibility of cracking of the plaster at a point around the lugs.
The invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a door frame and assembled lugs and anchors;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof showing the frame in position in a wall, and
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 3 8 of F ig. 2.
In the drawings, I have illustrated a metal buck of generally channel shape having a web 10, flanges 11 and plaster terminal margins 12. At intervalsin the length of the channel, I strike out lugs or ears 13 from the web of the channel, the lugs extending parallel to the flanges 11 and serving as means for positioning and holding the frame relative to the wall. As a means for anchoring the frame, I provide elongated slits 15 in the lugs 13 and utilize anchors consisting of a flat elongated'strip 16 which may be apertured as shown, these strips having laterally projecting T-heads 17 so arranged that the heads may enter the slits lwith the anchor in a vertical position and to firmly engage therewith by rotating the anchor into4 the position shown in the drawings. Preferably two of such anchors are provided at each anchor point, although one strip having lateral T- heads on its opposite sides may be utilized if desired. In order to securely embed the anchor in the mortar the head is projected outside of the outer margin of the strip, thus leaving a space indicated at 18 in Fig. 3 within which the mortar may be placed.
By means of the construction shown, the lugs are securely held against the side of the masonary wall and the frame is held by both of the lugs against a blow in either direction instead of by one lug only as inthe construction heretofore proposed.
Obviously the form of the anchor may be varied within rather wide limits and other changes may be made in the construction shown without departure from the spirit of my invention.
I claim:
1. In'combination, a metal buck of generally channel shape, apertured tile lugs projecting rearwardly in line with the ianges of the channel, and anchors adapted to be embedded in the masonry and having portions adapted to interlock with the apertures in the lugs.
2. In a door frame, the combination of a metal frame member, lugs projecting rearwarding therefrom and adapted to lie alongside of a masonry wall, said lugs having apertures therein, and anchors adapted to lie between courses of masonry and having laterally projecting portions adapted to engage in the apertures in said lugs.
3. In a door frame, the combination of a metal buck of generally channel shape in cross section, lugs struck out from said buck and projecting rearwardly in line with the flanges of the channel, said lugs having apertures therein and anchors adapted to lie between courses of' masonry and havingl laterally projecting portions adapted to enter the apertures in said lugs.l

6, In combination, a metal buck having tile lugs struck out therefrom, said lugs having elongated apertures therein, end anchors having 'lateral =ihead projections adapted to engage in seid apertures.
7. In combination, a metal buck having,` lugs projecting rearwardly therefrom, said lugs having elongated apertures therein and narrow metal strips having lateral T-head projections on one side only, adapted to engage in the apertures in said lugs for anchoring` the buck to a walh In testimony whereof I have aiiixed my signature.
