MARCEL HAIR WAVER.

Application filed. October 2, 1928.

This invention relates to an improved hair waver.

One object of the invention is to provide a hair waver which may be employed in conjunction with either long or bobbed hair.

Another object of the invention is to provide a hair waver which will effectually wave or curl the hairwound thereabout.

A further object of the invention is to provide a hair waving device including a pin having a retaining strap and clasping band carried by the strap, said strap and band providing means for retaining the hair in position about the pin.

Other objects of the invention not speci fically mentioned in the foregoing will appear during the course of the following description.

I In carrying the invention into effect, I employ a hairpin including spaced converging progs or legs 1 and 2 and a curved bight 3 connecting said legs. The outer end portlons of the legs are curved outwardly for more eflectually holding the pin in place. Formed in the curved bight 3 is a transverse opening or eye 4, and extending freely through said opening is a retaining strap 5 formed preferably of heavy cloth. Sewed or otherwise secured to the ends of the retaining strap is a preferably heavy cloth band 6 and mounted on the ends of said band are the male and female parts of a snap fastener 7. The ends of the strap 5 are disposed in spaced relation on the band 6 to provide a substantially V shaped retaining member, one end of the strap 7 being disposed near one end of the band and the other end of said strap being disposed medially of the band.

is twisted about the prongs 1 and 2 and the retaining strap 5 brought up to overlie the hair carried about the pin. The band 6 is then looped about the end portions of the prongs and is secured in place by means of the snap fastener 7. The hair will then be held firmly in place as the retaining strap will closely overlie the hair and prevent it from untwisting while the pin will be limited against disengagement by the band 6.

If preferred, both ends of the band 6 may, as shown in the modification of Figure 4, be sewed or otherwise secured to one end portion of the retaining strap 5 and the loop 8 thus formed looped about the end portions of the legs 1 and 2. One end portion of the band overlies the inner face of the strap 5 while the other end of said band overlies the outer face of said strap. Mounted on the other. end portion of the strap 5 and medially on the looped band are male and female parts of a snap fastener 9 for retaining said strap in operative position.

Referring now to the modification of the invention shown in Figure 5, the numeral 10 indicates a hairpin having prongs 11 and 12 and a connecting bight 13. Formed medially in the bight is a recess 14 and looped about said bight and fitting into the recess thereof is a strap 15 formed preferably of elastic material. The strap is secured in the recess and clamped together at the bight by a rivet 16. Riveted to the ends of the strap 15 is a band 17 which is looped about the end portions of the prongs 11 and 12. The rivets which secure one end of the strap to the band also serve to secure the ends of the band together. Aside from the foregoing, this modification of the invention is identical with the foregoing and functions in like manner.

Having thus described the invention, I claim: I

1. A hair waver including a pin having prongs connected by a bight, a flexible retaining strap engaged with the bight, a band having the ends of the strap secured thereto at longitudinally spaced points whereby the strap is of substantiallyV shape, the band being engageable about the free end portions of the prongs for supporting the strap to en tend longitudinally of said prongs, and means for detachably connecting the ends of said band.

2. A hair waver comprising a pin having prongs Connected by a'bight, a flexible strap engaged withsaid bight and having end portions extending therefrom in diyerging rela- 5 tion to each other, and acirolet adapted to be engaged about the free end porions of said prongs, the ends ofsaid-strap being engaged with said circlet at diametrically opposed portions thereof and extending diagonally from the big'ht towards the ends of the prongs 10 across space between the prongs when the cir'clet is engaged abont'the prongs;
