application mea nmmber 4, 192s. serial in. 152,652.
This invention relates to improvements in hair wavers and more particularly to hair Wavers constructed of a single length of braided flexible non-elastic material.
The primary object of the invention resides in a hair Waver of the type above mentioned which is provided with an eye or loop at one end, while the free ends of the same are bound by a ferrule for permitting the ends to be quickly -and easily. inserted through the eye when applying the Waver to the hair of a user.
Another object of the invention is the provision of ahair Waver constructed of a single length of flexible material which 1s bent midway'betweenits ends and twisted together to provide an eye and a twisted body portion, there being a metal collar applied to the body portion adjacent the eye for preventing accidental enlargement or contraction of the same, so that the free end of the body portionmay always be inserted therethrough when the device is applied to the head of a user.
Another object of the invention is to provide a hair Waver of the type mentioned in which the free ends of the material from which the Waver is formed are prevented from injuring the head of the user when 1n 30. position thereon and which adords comfort to the wearer.
With these and other objects in view, th invention resides Vin certain novel construction and combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described,`are particularly pointed out in the appended claims, andare illustrated in the accompanying drawing, inwhich:-
Figure l is a side elevational view of my improved hair Waver. Figure 2 is an enlarged transverse sectional view on the line 2 2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a similar view on the line 3 3 of Figure l.
Figure 4 is a side elevational View of the hair Waver bent into position for use. Figure 5 is a detail vertical sectional through the end ofthe Waver.
' Referring more particularly to the drawing, the reference numeral 10 designates my improved hair waver in its entirety and which is constructed of a single length of view which constitute the body 16. A metal band 17 encircles the body 16 adjacent the'ye 15 for preventing the eye from becoming enlarged or reduced by the untwisting or. further twisting of the free ends. Brieiy, the band is intended to always maintain the eye the same size. The band is tightly fitted about the body to prevent longitudinal movement of the same thereon.
The extreme ends of the material are covered by` a tapering ferrule or cap 18 whichmay be secured thereon in any suitable way such as by baring the ends of the wires l2 and dropping solder into the cap with the ends of the Wire embedded therein. The diameter of the ferrule at its largest point is such as to freely pass through the eye or loop 15 after the hair to be waved has been Wrapped vabout the body in thev usual manner after which the -body is bent' as shown in Figure 4 of the drawing with the ferrule inserted through the eye, and the free end bent so as to retain the Waver upon the head of the user.
From the foregoing description, it will be seen that I have improved upon the well- While I have described what I deem tobe the most desirable embodiment of my invention, it is obvious that many of the details may be varied without in any way departing from the spirit` of my invention,
and I therefore do not limit myself to the exactdetails of construction herein set forth nor to anything less than the whole of my invention limited only by the appended claims.
What is claimed as new is 1. A hair waver comprising a body of flexible material having a metallic core, said body being doubled upon itself to provide an eye, and the free ends twisted together, means for maintaining the size of said eye, and a ferrule encircling the extreme ends of flexible material for holding the same together, said ferrule adapted to freely pass through said eye when applying the Waver to the hair of a user.
2. A hair waverconprising a body of flexible material having a` metallic core, said body being doubled upon itselfto provide an eye, and the free ends twisted together, means for maintaining the size of said eye, a collar fitted tightly about said body adjacent said e e, and a ferrule encircling the extreme en s of flexible material for holding the same together, said ferrule adapted to freely pass through said eye when applying the waver to the hair of a user.
3. A haii' waver comprising a single length of flexible non-elastic material bent midway between its ends and twisted together to provide an eye and a twisted body portion, a collar encircling said body adjacent said eye for maintaining the size of said eye, and a ferrule receiving the free ends of said material for bunching the same for insertion through said eye.
4. A hair waver comprising a single length of ;.onelastic metallic core having a covering of soft flexible material thereon, said core being bent midway between its ends and twisted together to provide an eye and a twisted body, a collar fitted about said body adjacent said eye to maintain the size of the same, the extreme ends of said core being bare, and a ferrule secured to and receiving the bare ends of said core.
In testimony whereof I. have aflixed my signature.
Mns. iRENE STRABELLE.
