CHARLES J. I. DEVLIN, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
NECKTIE CENTRALIZER AND HOLDER.
Application filed November 14, 1927. Serial No. 233,240.
My invention relates to improvements in a necktie centralizer and holder, and it consists in the combinations, constructions and arrangements hereinafter described and claimed.
An object of my invention is to provide a necktie cent-ralizer and holder in which a cup-shaped member co-operates with the collar button and with a band securing the tie in place so that the cup-shaped member is held upon the collar button, thus hiding the button from view and providing a simple expedient for holding the tie in the correct position.
I am well aware that devices have been patented which receive the collar button, but I am not aware of any device which makes use of a collar button receiving member that is held in place by the band that encircles the collar.
Other objects and advantages will appear in the following specification, and the novel features of my invention will be particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
' My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, in which Figure 1 is a rear elevation of the device shown connected to a tie;
Figure 2 is a. section along the line 2-2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a plan view of a modified form of the device;
Figure a is a section along the line l-4c of Figure 3; b
Figure 5 is a plan view of another modlfied form of the device;
Figure 6 is a section along the line 65 of Figure 5;
Figure 7 is a plan view of still another modified form of the device; and
Figure 8 is a section along the line 8-8 of Figure 7.
In carrying out my invention I make use of a tie l of any fixed set or made-up form, such as a bow tie or a four-in-hand. A twopart band 2 having an elastic section 4, is
secured to the tie and is provided with fastening means 3 at the ends thereof, and with an adjustable buckle 4:.
Figure 2 clearly shows how the knot 5 of the tie has arecess 6 for receiving a cupshaped member 7. The member is large enough for receiving the head of any type of collar button 8, but it will be noted that the member does not grip the collar button but merely contacts therewith.
The member 7 co-operates with the two part band 2. The band holds the member against the collar button and the member receives the collar button so as to hold the tie 1 in the correct position.
Figures 3 to 7, inclusive, illustrate three modified forms of the cup-shaped member. The form shown in Figures 3 and 4 differs from that shown in Figures 1 and 2, in that the flange 10 extends at right angles to the axis of the member 11 instead of being cupshaped.
Figure 5 shows a member 15 having a depression Hilargeenough to receive the head of the collar button.
I11 Figures 7 and S I show a conical' shaped member 20 that houses the head of the collar button.
From the foregoing description of the various parts of thedevice, the operation thereof may be readily understood.
The necktie is applied to the collar in the usual manner and the cup-shaped member 7 is placed over the head of the collar button 8. The band 2 yieldingly holds the device on the button and therefore prevents the tie from moving out of position. llloreover, the collar button is kept hidden.
Although I have shown and described several embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that the same is susceptible of various changes and I reserve the right to employ such changes as may come within the scope of the appended claim.
It should be noted from Figures 2 and 4; that the members 7 and 10 have their re cesses large enough so as to receive the entire head of the collar button, 8 freely, and Without friction or snap effect. This affords freedom of movement backward and forward ofthe collar button Within the member and permits thehutton to adjust itself so that its shank will stand out approximately at right-angles to the neckband of the shirt.
I In this Way the collar button will not assume a tilting position and thus present-a cutting or chafing edge against the throat of the 10 wearer.
A tie, an elastic band secured to the tie for holding it on the neck,a collarbutton receiving receptacle secured to the tie and 15 having a c0nical-shaped portion for guiding the collar button into the receptacle.
