IMPROVEMENT IN FENCES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 170.830, dated December 7, 1875; application filed October 21, 1875.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN DWYER, of Marion, in the county of Marion and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fences; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.

The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a fence, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of my fence, and Fig. 2 is an end view of the same.

Each post of my fence is composed of a sill, A, with two upright parallel posts, B B, mortised therein. (J (J are the panel rails or bars, the ends of which are inserted between the parallel posts B B. A single wire, D, is then wrapped around the upright posts, holding their upper ends close to the rails, said wire also passing around the upper ends of two inclined braces, E E, which are set into the ground, one on each side of the fence, as shown. These braces pass under one of the rails Oone on each side of the fence-post said rail being cut'on both sides on the under side, so that the upper ends of the braces can project above the said rail, and the wire D pass around their upper ends to hold the parts firmly together.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is'- The combination of the base A, upright posts B B, rails C, braces E E, and the wire I), all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
