FILING DEVICE.

'My invention relates to improvements in filing devices, and more particularly to that demands ofthe market, such liles being usually of an all metal character. Other obiects include ease of access to the contents of y the file, the absence of bolts or rivets to minimize labor costs, compactness, rigidity and neat appearance. V

In Figures 7 and 8 is shown what may be termed a lining member D consisting ct three panels when bent, as in Figure 8, to form on d panels 17 and 18 and a bottom panel 19. Membcr D serves the dual purpose of providing double walls at the sides and bottom of body portion A when inserted therein,

'Referring to Figures 5 to 8, these various parts are assembled as follows: The guide guide ends 4 ends 7 and 8 are bent upwardly from the position shown in Figure 6 and are inserted in the body portion A in snug engagement with the ends 3 and 4. Hinges 15 are then glued to the top surface of the panel 5 and the tab 16 is bent around the front edge and beneath panel 5 and firmly glued thereto as shown in Figure 3. Member D is now ready for insertion. It is bent into the shape shown in Figure 8, lifted by grasping the end panels '17 and 18, and placed in position within the body porti on A, the bottom panel 19 resting upon panel 5. lhe end panels 17 and 18 are somewhat inclined towards each other during this operation so that the spacing blocks 20 and 21 can be pushed into the apertures 7 of the and 8, whereupon end panels 17 and 18 are pressed outwardly so that the glued surfaces 24; will cont-act with the inner surfaces of the ends 3 and 1 to be firmly attached thereto, the whole forming an interlocking arrangement permitting the extension to be rocked outwardly on its hinges until the walls of the apertures 7 contact with the spacing blocks 20 and 21 as indicated in dotted lines in Figure 3, a tooth 25 on each of the blocks 22 and 23 being adapted to thereupon also engagethe teeth 7* as additional means for limiting the said movement.

It will be noted that when member D is assembled within body portion A the end panels 17 and 18 will extend slightly above the top edges of the ends 3 and 1, as at 26, and corresponding in extent to that of panel 10 above panel 9. This feature of the construction provides inset shoulders for the cover C to rest upon when the latter is closed, as well as guiding flanges, all of which adds to the rigidity and neatness of appearance oi the file. Handles are provided by riveting tabs 27 to the ends 3 and 4, the rivets also piercing the end panels of the member D to more positively hold it in place. A filing device comprising a body portion having three walls and a bottom panel, inner end panels in spaced relation to two of said walls thereby forming double walls at the ends of said body portion, blocks interposed between and secured to the inner end panels and the walls and serving to space the former from the latter, an extension member hinged to the bottom of thebody portion and provided with a front panel and guide ends, the latter being adapted to extend between the said double walls and engage said spacing blocks, said guide ends having apertures adapted to receive the said spacing blocks and permit the extension to swing open to a predetermined extent. i

3. A filing device comprising a body portion having three walls and a bottom panel,

inner end panels in spaced relation to two of said walls, thereby forming double walls, blocks interposed and secured to the inner end panels and the walls and serving to space the former from the latter, an extension member hinged to the bottom of the body portion and provided with guide ends adapted to extend between said double walls, and means to limit the extent of movement of said extension member comprising lugs on the spacing blocks and projections integral with the guide ends and adapted to engage with the said lugs.

A filing device comprising a body portion having three walls and a bottom panel, inner end panels in spaced relations to two of said Walls, thereby forming double walls, a plurality of spacing blocks interposed between and secured to each of the inner end panels and its corresponding wall, certain of said spacing blocks being each formed with a lug, an extension member hinged to the bottom of the body portion and provided with guide ends adapted to extend between said double walls, and means to limit the extent of movement of said extension member comprising apertures and projections on said guide ends, said apertures adapted to receive loosely certain of said spacing blocks and said projections adapted to engage said lugs.
