One of the ob ects of the present inven tion is'to provide a simple and practical, cover of two parts, and free ofexterior pro-.

Another object is to provide a strong, substantial and durable cover only one-half of which is usually opened, yet permitting the entire cover to be bodily removed when so desired.

A further object is to provide acover of the last above mentioned character of neat appearance and having relatively few parts which may be inexpensively manufactured and assembled. 1 v

A further object is to provide a cover of the last above mentioned character, which is well adapted to accomplish among others all of the objects above set forth.

This cover comprises a centrally disposed member 11 also of any suitable material preferably undercut at its ends, having recesses therein adapted to receive spring pressed detents 12 adapted to co-act with recesses 13 in the upper central inside edges of the side walls of the receptacle 10. .These detents each comprise a plunger-like mem ber 14, normally urged outwardly by means of a spring 15. It will also be noted that these detents serve a dual function, namely, they cooperate with relatively flat sheet metal members 16, as shown more clearly in Figure '3, which members comprise abody. portion and outwardly and oppositely extending wings 17. These wings are adapted to engageslots 18 in the hinged cover members 20, at each side. "In ordertohold the parts in assembled relation, pins 21 coop crate with holes 22 in the cover members 20, and also pass through holes 23, Figure 4, of the wings 17 when in assembled relation. Such constructions are believed to provide a stronger and more durable arrangement than an ordinary hinge. Likewise, it per-- mits the cover to be assembled at less expense as fewer parts or elements are re quired. In order that the covers may be conveniently lifted, projections or handles 24: are provided as indicated.

In Figure 4 there is shown a slight modification. The parts are substantially the same as those above described, but the doors or covers 25 are flexibly secured to end pieces 26 in exactly the same manner as the. covers 20 are secured to the member 11. These parts 26 are detachably connected at each end of the box by spring detents 12, and handles 27 are provided in order that the covers may be conveniently removed;

In assembling either of these constructions, the spring pressed detents 12 which hold the parts in place are inserted in the bore or slots provided in the undercut end portion of the

11 or 26. The flexibly connected covers 20 are then attached when the wings 17 are inserted in the cut out portion 18 and the pin 21 driven into place.

It will thus'be seen that the present invention provides a simple and practical box cover having a plurality of parts flexibly connected with each other whereby the cover may be removed or raised, either partially or entirely. The construction involving relatively few parts permits. the same to be easily and quickly and inexpensively assembled.

I claim:

1. In combination with a box, a box cover comprising a plurality of portions adaptedto be detachably secured to the box and means permitting detachment of thecover from the box comprising spring detents, the inner walls of the box being provided" with recesses with which said spring detents coact.

2. In combination with a box, a box cover comprising a member adapted to be detachably secured to the inner side walls of the box, a cover member on each side of said first mentioned member and flexibly connected thereto, and means permitting the de tachment and providing of the flexible connection including a sheet metal member extending laterally from both sides of said first member to which said cover members are secured and a spring actuated detent holding said sheet metal member in place and cooperating with the inner wall of said box. r

3. In combination with a box, a box cover comprising a member extending from one side to the other, and beneath the upper level of the box, a yielding detent at each endof said member cooperating with the inner wall of the box whereby said member may be bodily removed, and a cover member each side of said first mentioned member flexibly connected therewith, said connection comprising a sheet metal member at each end of said first member and extending laterally with respect to the first member and secured to each of said cover members, whereby either or both of the cover members may be raised with respect to the first mentioned member.

4. In combination with a box, a box cover comprising a member extending from one side to the other, and beneath the upper level of the box, a spring actuated detent at each end of said member cooperating with the inner wall of the box whereby said member maybe bodily removed, and a cover member at each side of said first mentioned member flexibly connected therewith, said connection comprising a sheet metal member and secured to each of said cover members, whereby either or both of the cover members may be raised with respect to the first mentioned members, said spring actuated detents cooperating with said sheet metal members to hold the parts in assembled relation.
