Description

L PARKER ETAL COVER AND LOCK FOR TOILET FLUSH TANKS Fi1ed May 10. 1948 Paented Nov. 6, 1951 -1 ul' invention relates to a cover and 10ck for toilet ush tanks, and the 0bects 0f our;inven" l...ion are:
- First, to provide a cove1 and 10ck '0f this cl;sS vvhich eeetively prevents the inadvertent breakage Oftoilet iuSh tank covers of' bonven tiona1 des g1 Whichn1ay be easily displaeed fro!n the c0nventi0nl tank, pernittin san1eto fa11 and crack;
Second, to provide a cover and lock of this class which is readily adapted for use in connection with toilet 1uSh tanks with only Slight changes;
'Il1il'd, to provide a cover and lock 0f this class which is very snple and eSy to engage or disengage when placing or ren10ving covers of toilet uSh tankS;
Fourth, t0 provide a cover and lock fol' toilet iiush tanks Which does not obstruct the 0per ating mechanism within the tank; and
Fifth, to provide a' cover and lock f0l' t0ilet flush tanks of this class vvhich is very sirnple and econonlica1 0f construction, efcient in op eration, and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of order with these and other objects in view, as will appear hereinafter, ou1 invention consists of certain novel features of construction, c0!nbination and arrangenlent of parts and portions as will be heeinafter described in detail and particularly Set forth in the appended cla'i!ns, ref erence being had to the accon panying drav7 ings and to the characters of reference thereon, fornling a' part of this applicati0n, in which:
Fig. 1 iS a perspective view of our cover and lock for t0ilet uSh tanks, Shown on a iiush tank }...'ig. 2 iS an enlarged frag!1entary sec tional view, taken fro!n the line 2-2 of ig. 1- Fig. -3 is a reduced sectional view taken from the line 3-3 0f Fig. 2. 1'ig. is a' 1'educed sectiona1 vievv taken fron1 the line Of 'ig. 2
sinlilar characters of reference refer to sinilar parts and portions throughout the several views of the drawing 'he tank I, cover 2, latch 3, latch release 4, and pad 5 constitute the principal parts and portions of our cover and ck for toilet flush tanks.
The tank l is a substantialy conventiona1 rectangular tank, provided vvith an invvardly ex tending 1ange piece on one end there0f adjacent the upper open Side of the tank, as shown in Fig. 2 0f the drawings. 2 is substantia11y rectangular having overlapping the drawingS; "'Integra1 with the cover 2- is 'ai projection 25, ete ding d0wnward1y on an in 61ine toward' the ange of the tank secured on the end of this projection 2b is the pd 5, Which is nlade of any Suitable resilient or 1iexible material desired This pad 5 engages the flange |(z at its il1wardly extending smooth, rounded end. and the resilient character of this pad 5 Inaintains Slight tension on the cover 2, h01ding the sanle dovvnvv9ardly over the upper end of the tank In the 0pposite end of the cover 2 fronl the projection 2b we have provided a slot 2C, in vvhich the angularly extending end 3c of the Spring latch 3 is engaged. This spring latch 3 extends at SubSta tially right angles to the plane of the cover 2 and is provided with an offset latch portion 3Z engaging an invvardly extending projection le on the inner end wall of the tank I1e latch 3 is provided with an arnl portion 3C extending beyond the oset latch portion 3h engageable by the reciprocally operated latch release 4, vvhich is slidably Inounted on 9 horizontal bore por tion l(z in one end wall of the tank as shown best in 'ig' 2 0f the drawingS ''he operation of our cover and 10ck for toilet flush tanks is substantially as follows:
vvhen the cover 2 is secured on the tank l aS Shovvn in Fig. 2 0f the drawings, the projection 2b which iS rigid, Supports the flexible pad 5 in fir!nly engaged relationship with the in vvardly extending flange |(Z near the upper end 0f the tank l. 'he resi1ient characte1 of the latch 3 tends to force the saIne against the inner end wall of the tank into secure engagement with the inwardly projecting latch portion lc integral with the inner side of the end Wall of the tank I, as shown in Fig 2 0f the dravvings I'he cover 2 is thus prevented fron1 inadvertent re!noval froln the tank and in the event it is desired to ren10ve the cover 2 frotn the tank l, the latch release 4 iS pressed inwardly, which engages the ann portion 3C of the latch Inelnber 3, thus disengaging the off- Set portion 3b from the latch portion lc of the tank pern1itting the flanges 2C 0f the cover 2 to be engaged for vertically nloving the latch end of the cover 2 upvvardly to aJ Slightly inclined position, S0 that the pad Inay be resiliently IIaving thus described ou1` invention, W;1a vve clailn as llevv and desire t0 Secure by Letters curved downwardl on its u r edge nd t rconnected to said cover near its opposite end extending downwardly into said tank, a rojection having an u er beveled portion and a' 10Wer shoulder extendj11g from the innel' side wall of Said tank, Said laitch having a lower off- Set shoulder portion and a beveled upper portion engageable with said projection, said tank hav ingvan opening extending through the Side wall there0f, and a re1ease member Slidably mounted in Said opening, adapted to engage and deect Sid latch 1T1en1ber for disengaging the sanle fron said i lwardly projecting portion of said lt1inating in a' rounded or curved extreniy of LE0 PARKER.
