Description

J. W. NYE. V
SEATS FOR BATH-NBS. $1 ,170,762 Patented Dec. 7,-1875.
NJ-EI'ERS. PHOTO-LITHOGRAFRER. WASHINGTON D C UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFIOE,
JOSEPH W. NYE, OF LYNN, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN SEATS FOR BATH-TUBS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 170,762, dated December 7, 1875; application filed October 6, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
- Be it known that I, JOSEPH W. NYE, of Lynn, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain Improvements in Seats for Bath-Tub, of which the following is a' specification:
Figure l of the accompanying drawing is a top view, and Fig. 2 is a central vertical transverse section, of a bath-tub with my improved seat or rack attached.
The object of the present invention is, mainv, to provide an adjustable seat, rack, or shelf, simple and economical in construction and cost, which may be readily applied to a bathtub,.and conveniently used as a seat for a person bathing, for a stand or seat for bathing children, for supporting a small tub or other vessel for washing articles of apparel or other objects, or employed for a numerous variety of purposes that will readily be apparent to any housekeeper.
My invention consists of an adjustable seat,
I rack, or stand, arranged to be readily applied to or removed from a bath-tub, and constructed as I will now proceed to describe.
In the drawings,,A A represent two parallel longitudinal boards or plates, of wood, metal, or other suitable material, forming the sides of the seat or stand, 860. These sides extend downward on the inside of a bath-tub, B, to which they are held by lateral-extending flanges or lips O 0, attached to, or formed on the tops of the sides A A, and resting on the top of the sides of the bath-tub B. Attached to or formed in or on the sides A A, at or near their bottom, are the ends of transverse parallel rods, slats, or bars D, placed a short distance apart, and forming the bottom of the seat or rack, 850.
By the above description, reference being had to thedrawings, it will readily be seen, without further explanation, that by my-invention a very useful, convenient, simple, and economical seat or rack, &c., is furnished, that may readily be adjusted to, or removed from, a bath-tub at any time, and employed fol" a great variety of uses that will readily present themselves. 7
I am aware that seats for wagon-bodies have been suspended by means of uprights having hooks upon their upper ends, which overlap the sides of the wagon-body. Such I disclaim, as it is not my invention; but
Having thus fully described my improve ments, what I claim as my invention, and desire to have secured to me by Letters Patent,
The open rack formed of the slats D, united JOSEPH W. NYE.
