SHELVlNG.
3PECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 302,081, dated July 15, 1884. I
Application and May 14,1884. (No model.) Y
' To all whom it may concern).-
with legs having apertur'ed cross-bars, of-
shelves held on the cross-bars byscrews passed through the ends of the shelves into the crossbars, which shelves preferably have angleplates secured on their ends. The shelves are also supported by intermediate legs between the-legs supporting the ends of the shelves.
Reference is to be had to theaccompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of refere'fice indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved Fig. 2 is a cross-sectiona1 elevation of the same. Fig. 3'is an enlarged sectional view of the shelving. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of thedntermediate support.
The shelves A are provided at their ends with angle-irons A, through which screws B are passed to screw the ends of the shelves on transverse bars D, uniting the front and rear standards, E and F, of an upright metal frame. The said horizontal bars D maybe provided on their under sides with longitudinal ribs for strengthening them. The ends of the shelves A abut over the central longitudinal line of the bars D. If desired, the screws B can be dispensed with, and the shelves simply rested on the bars D. The shelves can be supported between their ends by transverse bars G, having legs' H, the said legsresting loosely on the shelf directly below the one to be supported. The said. supports G H can easily be. shifted N, rests, the shelves being secured on the top and bottom sections in a like manner; The rear standards, 1*, are preferably provided with wings 0, through which screws can be passed to hold the standards on the wall.
The advantages of my improved shelving are that it can be erected or taken down very rapidly, is Very light, strong, and durable, and can be adjusted and arranged in different ways, as circumstances may require. f
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination, with standards united by horizontal cross-bars, of shelves having their ends placed on the cross-bars, the ends of the adjoining shelves abutting over the said cross-bars, substantially as herein'shown and described. i v
2. The combination, with the front and rear standards, of horizontal bars uniting them,
shelves having their ends placed on the said.
bars and abutting over the center lines of the bars, and of screwspassed through the shelves and the said bars, substantially as herein shown and described.
3. The combination, with shelves having their ends held in suitable end standards, of adjustable intermediate supports, frames held loosely on the shelves, each of which frames is formed of standards H, united by a top bar, G, substantially as herein shown and described.
