- Application hiea ja rn 17,
This invention relates to dolls and more p'arti'cularlyis directed to an improved con struction of a doll body for supporting a limb animating mechanism and head.
Among the objects of the invention is to provide an improved d'ol l body construction of-the character described comprising a simple structure which i's cheap to manufacture, permits easy and quick assembly of the doll parts and practical and'efiicient to a high degree.
Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elementsyand arrangement of parts which will be exemplified inthe construction hereinafter described and of which the scope of application will be indicated in the following claims. v
In the accompanying drawing, in which is shown one of the various possible illustrative embodiments of this invention,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a walkin doll embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevational viewof an undressed doll, portions thereof being broken away to show the construction of the body.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of a blankfor'forming the improved body of the doll.
Referring in detail to the drawing, 10 denotes a walking-doll embodying the invention. Said doll is seen to comprise a-tubular body or casing 11 in which is mounted a limb I actuating mechanism 12 for animating the legs 13 which extend from the lower end 11 of said casing and the arms 14 which are suitably connected with said mechanism through openings 11*, one of which is embodied in the perforation 11 in the blank 111 and the other formed by the coaction of cut-outs 1 1 in said blank.
The animating mechanism 12 may be of any well known construction, and is not shown here in detail as it forms no part of this invention, said mechanism being secured tOg the casing 11 in any suitable manner as by' tabs 12 which project through holes 11 in said casing. For winding the mechanism the usual winding key 15 is provided which extends through a slot 11 in said casing. See Figs. 2 and 3. g
The body or casing 11 is preferably formed of a blank stamped from a single sheet of material 111 said sheet being shaped sense.
r525. ra-11a. 162337;
and bent to form'the tubular body structure shown in: Fig. 2. Said structure may be re tained in tubular shape. by any suitable means such as integrally formed tabs 11 extending from opposite edges of said sheet,
i v I, I 7, said tabs forming a quick-detachable ia-stenv ing with the slotted "waslrers 16: The top and bottom ends of saidtubular st'ructnre,
are formed with upper and lower grooved or beaded edges 17 and 18 respectively. The;
upper beaded edge is adapted to engage a flanged neck rim 19 formed on the'doll head 19 as shown in Fig. 2 and the lower beaded edge 18 .toretainthe underclothes 20 of the doll from slipping off the body 11, (see Fig. 1.) be provided with aligned slotsor perforations 111 extending vertically through the middle portion thereof to facilitate'bending vthe said sheet into the tubular shape.
In assembling the doll 10, the sheet 111 is bent into tubular shape and the animating mechanism 12 with the limbs attached thereto is mounted in place by securing the tabs 12 in the openings 111 The flanged rim 19 'of the head is then positioned to be engaged by the upper beaded edge 17 and the tabs 11 secured by means of the washers 16 fo-rretaining the body 11 in shape and for clampingthe head 19 to, said body.
The doll may now be dressed, the undera clothes 20 beingheld. to the body 11 by securing same above the beaded edge 18. The above described construction of the body'll is thus seen to form a simple structure havlng means whereby both-the ani- Said blank sheet 111 may also mating mechanism, limbs, head, and. dress are easily and quickly assembled to form thecomplete doll. I
It will-thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects ofthis invention. are achieved and which is well adaptedto meet the conditions of practical nse.
As Various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiment above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawing is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting Patent 1.. In a doll construction, a head having described my invention, I
a flanged neck portion, and a tubular body formed of sheet material having one end thereof formed With a beaded edge, said edge being adapted to engage with said flanged neck portion for mounting the head in position.
2. In a doll construction of the character described, comprising a doll head, a tubular body formed of sheet material having beaded edge portions, one beaded portion comprising means for securing said head in position and another bead comprising means to retain clothes for said doll on said body.
3. A doll construction of the character described, comprising a head and. limbs,
a limb animating mechanism, a body for mounting sald head and mechanism, said body comprising a tubular structure formed of a single sheet of material, means at one end of said structure for engaging said head, and means for retaining said body portion intubular shape, said latter means serving to retain the first mentioned means in effective engagement with said head.
