UNITED, STATES PA NT OFFICE.
GEORGE- F. BAKER, JR., OF CHICAGO, IIlLINOIS ASSIGNOR TO POPULAR MECHANICS 00., OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A QGRPOBATION OF ILDINOIS. i
, ADVERTISING nnvicn.
Application filed May 21, 1928. serial No. 279,505.
My invention relates to advertising devices and particularly to a novel structure intended as a A fundamental idea'in connection with the device is to provide a display that will v show the cover page of a current'issue of the magazine; second, possible purchaser that a supply of the magazines is on hand and, third, that will eX- cite the curiosity of the public as to how a light can be caused to shine through a body These objects are of very simple form, will follow.
The invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- J Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the device constructed in accordance with my inven tion;
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view thereof; and,
Fig. 3 is a description of which In the drawings, it will beseen that the device of my invention includes a base 10, which may be hollow and constructed of sheet metal if desired, the exterior face being colored, lettered and lined to indicate a stack of the magazines sale.
The upper portion 11 of the device likehollow sheet metal body, the side walls of which are suitably printed and decorated to indicate a leaning or inclined stack of the same magazines resting on top of the stack represented by the base 10. An electric lamp 12 of the flasher type is placed within the casing 11 and a cover 13 serves to close the top thereof.
The front wall of the casing is constructed to provide two flanges 1 1, 14 extending from top to bottom along the side edges of the casing and adapted to receive two sheets 15, 16 of transparent material such as celluloid or glass. Between these sheets of transparent material the cover page 17 of the current issue of the magazine is inserted.
display device for magazines.
that will indicate to a an enlarged sectional detail on the line 33' of Fig. 2.
that are offered for a magazme said transparent wall andsaid cover,
The paper on which thecover is printed belng semi-transparent, the light from the lamp 12 will shine through the three layers of material constituting the front wall and accentuatethe illustrations, colors and lettering of the cover. I
When the issue of the magazine isobsolet-e and a new issue arrives, the dealer will remove the cover page of the past numb and insert one of the current issue. The unique display will attract the attention of possible customers and serve materially to" increase, the sales. The device is of very simple and economical construction and requires no attention other than the changing of the cover pages from time to time.
While Iprefer to utilize a flasher lamp, it will be apparent that advantageous resultsmay tions and variations in the form and arrange be secured by the use of an ordinary continuously burning lamp. Modificamen't may be made and I do not wish to be limited except as indicated in the appended claims.
I claim 1. In an advertising device, the combination of a base, a hollow casing constructed to simulate a plurality of vertically stacked magazines resting" on said base, a wall of said casingbeing transparent, means in said transparent wall for receiving the cover of thatis advertised, and a source of light in said casing adapted to shine through said transparent wall and sald.
