Description

July 4, 1950 N. R. cRoNQUlsT DISPLAY CARD Filed Deo. 6, 1945 INVENTOR.
Patented July 4, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE DISPLAY CARD Nils R. Cronquist, Hartsdale, N. Y., assignmto Universal Bulb Corporation, Yonkers, N. Y.
Application December 6, 1945, Serial No. 633,065
1 Claim. (Cl. L10-1241) This invention relates to improvements in display cards and more particularly to such cards which may be removably connected t a counter box ticket holder.
One of the important features of the invention resides in a display card formed from a single blank of cardboard material which is folded and secured in a novel manner to provide horizontal parallel flanges, which flanges may be slidably inserted into a counter box ticket holder to facilitate the supporting of the card in a display position relative to a counter box display.
Another feature of the invention is to provide a display card in which the name of the article and price indicia may be provided on the front face thereof by conventional printing methods prior to the folding of the blank as aforesaid.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a display card which is simple and inexpensive of construction and attractive in appearance in that the connection between the card and its support is concealed from view when looking at the front thereof.
Other novel features of the invention will become apparent as the following specication is read in conjunction with the accompanying drawing in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view looking at the rear of the display card.
Figure 2 is a front elevational view showing the card in position upon a counter box ticket holder.
Figure 3 is an enlarged vertical sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is an enlarged detailed vertical sectional view on the line 4--4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a front plan view of the blank from which the price marker is constructed.
While the invention is referred to as a display card for articles of merchandise on display, the same may be referred to as a price ticket marker or sign and is therefore not limited by the title herein given.
Referring to the drawing by reference characters, numeral I0 designates my display card in its entirety and which is formed from a single blank A of cardboard or other equivalent material as best illustrated in Figure 5. The blank A is rectangular in plan and is scored transversely equi-distantly from its ends on the parallel score lines I3 and I4 to provide rearwardly oldable flaps I5 and I6 respectively. The blank is further scored on the parallel transverse score lines Il and I8, the score line I8 being closer to the score line I4 than the score line I1 is to the score line I3. The score lines I3, Il, IB and I4 divide the blank into an upper rear panel section I9, a front ypanel 20, and a rear lower panel section 2|, the latter being of a less height than the upper rear panel section I9. The front surface of the front panel 20 contains the sign or price marker indicia 22.
The end flaps l5 and I6 of the blank A are folded forwardly on the respective scores I3 and I4 so as to lie flat against the outer surfaces of the adjacent rear Wall or end panel sections I9 and 2I respectively. Next, the upper and lower rear panel sections I9 and 2l are folded rearwardly and flat against the back of the front or middle ,panel 2!) whereby the rear panel sections meet at the folds of the ilaps I5 and I5. Ihus it will be seen that the combined height of the upper and lower rear panel sections I9 and 2| substantially equals the height of the front panel 2U.
After the blank has been folded in the manner above described the aps I5 and I6 are respectively connected to the adjacent panel sections I9 and 2| by suitably spaced metal staples 23. In the drawing there is shown three suitably spaced staples 23, two at adjacent ends of the aps I5 and I6 and the third midway between the ends thereof. The staples bridge the joint between the rear panel sections I9 and 2I and have their ends passing through the flaps I5 and I6 and the rear panel sections I9 and 2| over which they are folded. The ends of the staples pass through the aps and the panel sections inwardly of the free longitudinal edges of the flaps I5 and I6.
In use, the display card I0 is attached to a counter box ticket holder 24, the same having upper and lower channels 25-25. In Figures 2 and 3 the display card is shown mounted upon the holder 24 wherein the free edges of the ilaps I5 and I6 are disposed within the channels 25-25. In holders having open ends, the flaps I5 and I6 may be slidably inserted from one of the ends, while in holders having closed ends the free longitudinal edges of .the flaps may be flexed into positi-on within the channels 25-25. Whereas a counter box holder is shown the card may be attached to the conventional price marker molding strips usually applied to the edges of store shelves. With the card I0 in the position just explained the advertising indicia 22 is prominently displayed forward of the counter box and the merchandise contained therein.
While I have shown and described what I consider to be the most practical embodiment of my invention I wish it to be understood that such score lines dividing the blank into a wide middle i Y front display panel and a pair of end panel sections, the latter being folded upon the front display panel into position overlying the rear face of the latter, integral aps extending along the free edges of the end sections and folded away from said display panel to overlie the outer faces of the respective rearward folded end sections, and fastening means for securing the end panel 4 sections together and said flaps in their folded positions against same, said flaps being formed for engagement beneath the turned-over edges of a holding member.
