ADJUSTABLE WAISTBAND FOR TROUSERS.
l Application filed April 9,
This invention relates to trousers, and more particularly to an adjustable waistband for trousers and the like garments.
The object of the invention is to provide an adjustable waistband for trousers, of simple and economical construction, which may be readily and easily adjusted to various sizes of waist measurements.v
vide, in connection with the invention,.means associated therewith to afford a safety pocket.
Another and important'object of the invention, Vis to provide an adjustable waistband, which, when adjusted, presents a'l neat and close fit of the waistband about the waist, the trousers havingthe general appearance' of ordinary trousers without any waistband adjustment. j
The invention consists in trousers, having a waistband, a pocket opening -oislit at the sides of thetrousers in line with the side seams and extendingk entirely through and dividing the waistband and its lining, a pocket having its opening edges secured to the edges of the pocket opening of thefront leg section and its upper edges secured to the opposite lower edges of the separated waist-y band and waistband lining, a gusset secured to and along the 'edges of the pocket opening, and compleinental adjustable fastening means secured to the upper edges of the pocket opening and to the inner and outer sides of the waistband lining upon opposite sidesof the pocket opening.
The invention also consists in an adjustable waistband for trousers including a pocket opening extending entirely through .the
waistband, a pocket secured tothe edges of the pocket opening at the front section of the trousers and to thelower open edges v'of the waistbandY lining and fron't section of the trousers, an extended flap' secured to the edge of the slit opening of the back section ofthe trousers, a gusset secured at-.its edges to thev inner edge of the pocket opening of the front section of the trousers and to the free edge of the Hap on thel back section of the trousers, and complemental 'A to the upper edges of the waistband of the front and back sections and upon the inner and outer faces of the waistband linings of the front and back sections, the said flap adapted to extend within the pocket when in adjusted position toaord as'afety guard for Athe pocket, all substantially as I will proceed Jfastening means securedl 1928. Serial N0.` 268,510.
now more particularly to set forth and finally i claim.
1n the accompanying drawings, illustrating. the invention, in the several figures of which like parts are similarly designated,
broken awayto more clearly illustrate the in-l vention. Fig. 2 is a front view on a smaller scale of the upper portion' of -a pair oftrou- `sers showing the waistband in closed position. And Fig. 3 is van enlarged horizontal section, on a large scale through the waist-A band at the side adjustment opening. l
1n the drawings, 1, l, represent the leg sections. 2-the waistband. 3 the usual waist-v band lining, .4l the side seams of the leg sections, 5 isa side slit oropeniiig extending upwai'dly fromthe side seam i to and entirely thereby aifording an opening extending from Y v trousers and to thewaistband, and open from its connection at the bottom and its connection with tlie waistband, thereby leaving an openingjinto the pocket extending from its connection with the .trousers to the extreme upper edge of the waistband.
l Secured tothe inner edge of the slit opening andalong the edge of the back section at the pocket opening, is a slightly tapering gusset 8 extending to 'and just above the lower end of thepocket opening. For the purpose of this invention an extension flap 9 is secured along the edge 9. of theback section at the pocket opening, and of a lengthl to extend just above thelower end or opening of the pocket, and to the outer edge 8 of. this flap 9, the gusset 8 is secured forming a con-V nection between the inner edge of the pocket opening of the front section and the ledge of the pocket opening and extension flap 9'of the back section. Y
By this construction it will be observed that ziol ico
60H. Figure l is a perspectiveview ofthe upper portion of a pair of trousers illustrating the Y. Y invention, the front portionof the legbeing` A further object of the invention is to pro-v 'I5 through `the waistband 2. and its lining 3,
the edge of the back section of the trousers with its attached-gusset 8 and the flap 9, mayl beinserted or slipped through the pocket opening and extended into the pocket, and adjusted to'aiiy desired position, to vary the waist measurement of the trousers, the'gusset 8 permitting of suchadjustment, and affording a closure between the' front` and back edges of the trousers at the side opening,
and the gusset 8 and 'flap 9 affording a safety guard for ,the pocket to prevent the contents of the pocket from accidental loss.
Any suitable complemental adjustable iastenersV may befixed to the upper edges of the ffront and back sections of the side openings Aand to the waistbands of the front and back section to secure `the parts in adjusted position, and as--shown in the drawings hooks l0 are liixed to the upper edges of the front and" back sections at the' waistband, and compleymental.buttonholestrips llvor other suitable fastenings are secured to the inner side of the waistband lining of the back section, and. tothe waistband lining beneath and concealed by the front section of the trousers.
In adjusting the trousers, it is merely nee-l essary to insert the flap 9 within the vpocket opening and slide the same into the pocket until the proper adjustment is made, and then fthe adjusted parts secured in adjusted posipocket to serve as asatety guard as hereinbefore described.
When adjusted and upon the wearer, the
waistband presents a neat and close ,tit without bulging of parts caused by the adjustment, and the garment lhas the appearance of an .ordinary pair of trousers without visible adjusting means atthe sides of the waistband. As hereinbefore stated, the ii'ap 9 extends considerable distance within the pocket andv lies closely to vthe outerwall 'of the pocket, and the gusset 8 connecting the inner edge of the flap Sand inner edge of the pocket opening, affords a substantial closure for lthe pocket opening and thus constituting a guard 5 for preventing the accidental loss of the-contents ofy thepocket.
