My invention is an improvement in nail stripping devices, and it consists in the combinations, constructions and arrangements herein described and claimed.

An object of the invention is the provision of a nail stripping device which affords facilities for holding a mass of nails from which nails may be 'fedto position for convenient removal one or more successively at a' time for use as desired.

The improved device is particularly well adapted for use by lat-hers, shinglers and other workmen who have occasion to drive nails in. rapid succession. Such workmen ordinarily place quantities of nails in their mouths and remove such nails one at a time for use as required. This practice is likely to cause injury to the mouth or teeth of a workman and to detrimentally afiect and thus impair his general health.

The present invention aims to provide a device from which nails can be taken by a workman and placed in position for driving more conveniently and quickly than he could transfer nails from his mouth to position for driving and of course without the aforesaid PO31 sible injury to his general 'health, mouth or teeth.

The improved device comprises a receptacle having a body 1 made of flexible material such as a heavy grade of duck or other suitable fabric or material. The body 1 is open at its upper end and is closed at its lower end bya forwardly and'upwardly inclined bottom plate 2 which may be made of a light gauge metal or other suitable relatively rigid material. The bottom plate 2 may be secured to the body 1 in any suitable manner, as by being secured at intervals along its marginal edge by bolts and nuts 3 or like fastening devices to an overlapping lower edge portion 4 of the body.- This plate 2 projects far enough outside of the duck to prevent the duck pouch from wearing out along the sharp edges of the metal plate.

The bottom plate 2 serves as a nail feeding plate and is formed with a plurality ofspaced depressed portions 5', thus producing channels 6 in the inner face of the bottom plate. The depressed portions are provided with longitudinal slots 7. through which the shanks of nails 8 may extend. These slots are lo cated along the longitudinal median lines of the depressed portions 5 and are of less width than the diameter of the heads of the nails so that the heads of the nails may slide along The body 1 preferably enlarges in cross sectional area from its upper end to its lower end and has its upper edge located in a plane which will be inclined downwardly and rearwardly when the receptable is supported at the front of the body of a workman 10 by the neck strap 11 and is secured to the body of the workman by the waist engaging straps 13 and 14 as shown in Fig. 1. The straps 13 and 14 may have their forward ends attached to oppositesides of the lower. part of the receptacle body and may be tied or otherwise secured together at the back of the wearer of the device and the neck strap may be a strap attached at-its ends to the top of the body of the receptacle at opposite sides of the front of the latter so as to produce a loop that can be slipped over the head of the wearer of the device.

From the foregoing description of the various parts of the device, the operation thereof may be readily understood. The workman places nails in the receptacle and the shanks of the nails drop downward through the slots 7. a The shank of the foremost nail in each slot thus can be conveniently grasped between the forefinger and thumb of a hand of the Workman and the nail quic'klyand easily moved forwardly and upwardly as required to cause the head of the nail to move through the outlet opening 9. in position for driving by a continuation or" the movement of the hand whereby the nail was removed from the device.

Obviously the invention is susceptible of embodiment in forms other than that, which is illustrated in the accompanying drawings and I therefore consider as my own all such modifications and adaptations thereof as fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims. Y
