Description

o NITED STATES THOMAS E. O. BRINLY, OF LOUISVILLE, KENTUCK Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
Speeifieation forming'pat of Letters Patent No. 170,516, dated November 30, 1875; application filed J uly 31, 1875. V
T0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS E. O. BRINLY',
'of Lonisville, in the County of .Tefl'erson and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Plows, of which the following` is a specifieation:
In tlle annexed drawings, Which form part of this specification, Figure l is a perspeetive view of a plow, showing one side. Fig. 2 is an elevation, showing the' Other side. Fig. 3 is all elevation, showing the adaptation of my improvementto shoVel-plows.
The same letters are employed in all the figures in the designation of identieal parts.
` My invention relates to that class of plows Which are made of metal; and consists ill forming the helve or standard of east-iron, to which the other parts of the plow are bolted, the helve being reeessed and otherwise formed to receive them.
A, in the annexed drawings, is the cast-iron helve, which is ladapted in form to receive the colter, plow-share, and mohl-board, or a shoi'el p Or other part of the cutting mecha-nisln of a ploW, to which end the helve, is constructed with the requisite flanges and bolt-holes. The upper end of the helve is curved and formed with fianges, to make recess'es to receive the bent WrOught-iron beams B,Whic h are fastened by bolts and nuts, as shown. The clevis is secured to the front end of the heannone end being plaeed between the tWo parts' to hold them apart. On the back of the helve is a projection, C, cast With recesses on each side, to receive the ends of the handlesD, Which 'are seeured by bolts and nuts.
Tlle beam and handles lnay thus be readily detaehed for convenience in paeking for shipment, and may be used upon different forms ot' helves adapted to various kinds of Work.
What I elaln as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A plow combining in its construction the curved cast-iron helve A, having flanges on 'the edges forming recesses on each side, to re-
