Specification forming part of Letters Patent N o. Edh, dated No vemher 30, 1875; application May 14, 1815.
To ali whom it may concern: v
Be it known that I, GEORG-E W'. EDDY, of New Britain, in the county of Hartford and" State of Connecticut, have invented vcertain new and useful Improvements in Toy Pistols; and I do hereby declare that the following isa full, clear, and exact description thereof, ,which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to ,make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and tothe letters of reference marked thereon,
The nature of my invention consists in the constructionand arrangement of a toy pistol, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
, lpgtlre annexed drawing the tigureis a longitudinal section of a vention.
A represents the handle or butt, and Bthe barrel, of the pistol, constructed in any of the known and usual ways for toy pistols.' C isAd the hammer, hung upon pivots a, and'. operated upon by a spring, D, within the handle or butt A. 0n the front of the lower `part of pistol embodying my inshoulders e e above and below the same. In
front of the hammer, between it and th'e rear end of the barrel, is hung a bar or lever, G,
the lower end otl which forms the trigger, and Y the upper end extends far enough upward to` cause a nipple, lL, thereon to enter the breech of the barrel B and strike against a perforated anvil, i, formed within the barrel near the rear end, On the bar G, above its pivot, is formed a projection, extending from the rear side,
as shown, and operating against the il-shaped projection d on the hammer.
In cooking the pistol, the lower end bof the hammer strikes the bar G below the pivot, turning the same so that the projection a: thereon comes under the projection d, against the shoulder e', holding the hammer cocked, the lower or trigger endof the bar G being moved out in position for tiring.
The cap is placed in the breech of the bar-- rel or exploding-chamber, or upon the nipple closing it up, as described, no part of the ful-V minate can escape, and the report is much louder.
It will be noticed that I' use ino triggerf`f-j` trigger is thrown out by the spring, but the hammer.
The cap, preparatory to tiring, may be placed in position by a pull of the trigger, .to prevent its being blown away.
Having thus fully described my invention, what Lclaim asiie'w, Letters Patent, is-
l. In a toy pistol the hammer C, -having the projection b, in combination with tile 'trigger G, so arranged that the. trigger is. ward by the cooking of the pistol,`substau tially as and for the purpose specified= 2. The trigger or bar G, extended'above the butt, in combination with the barrel B,'sub, stantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
3. The combination of-the barrel B with interior anvil i, and the extended trigger G, with nipple It, constructed to operate substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth. z
4. The combination in a toy pistol, 'of the hammcrU, having prd'ections d b, the spring D, and extended trigfrer G, provided with projections ha', all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I aftx my signntur in presehce of two witnesses.
