Description

G.. W'. EDDY.
TOY-PISTOL.
.Patented Apr`1l11,1876.
GEORGE W. EDDY, OF GRANBY, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOY PISTOLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 175,95 E, dated April 1 1, 1876; application filed March 1, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, GEORGE W. EDDY, of Granby, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Pistols; and I do hereby declare that the following' is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to toy revolvers; and it consists of a pin projecting from the rear end of the cylinder into au angling or diagonal groove on the hammer, whereby, when the hammer is raised, the cylinder is rotated to one side to disclose the recess for the insertion of the cap, and when the trigger is pulled the cylinder is turned back again to bring the cap opposite the end of the hammer.
In the annexed drawing, Figure 1 is a side view of a toy pistol embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an interior view of the same. Fig. 3 shows side and front edge views of the hammer, and Fig. 4. is a rear-end view of the cylinder.
A represents the handle or stock of a toy pistol, with frame B, barrel C, cylinder D, trigger E, and hammer G, all constructed in any ot' the known and usual ways. In the rear end of the cylinder D is a recess, c, for the insertion of the cap between the body of the cylinder and lip b pivoted therein. From this end of the cylinder projects a pin,t, as shown. Upon the front edge ofthe hammer, at the in- .ner or pivoted end, are two projecting anges,
d d, forming between them an angular or diagonal groove, w, into which the pin t' on the cylinder D extends. When the hammer is raised the cylinder is by said groove and pin rotated sufficiently to throw the recess a out beyond the frame, and allow ofthe cap being placed therein, and when the trigger is pulled so that the hammer falls, this movement ofthe hammer returns the cylinder to its former position just in time for the hammer to strike the pivoted lipeb and explode the cap.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a toy pistol, the combination of the recessed rotating cylinder D, with a projecting pin, t', and the hammer G, with the angular or diagonal groove substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEO. W. EDDY.
Witnesses LEONARD VANKLEEOK, RICHARD CASE.
