This invention relates to an attachment for harness and has for its object to provide a simple and inexpensive reinforcing element for that portion of the harness which is most easily worn out, namely, the joints ofthe leather parts with the hardware.

Another object of the invention resides in the provision of such a device which is constructed as a unit and which may be readily applied to the harness without the use of harness-makers tools or skilled labor.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing; in which Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of a breeching strap with the invention applied thereto.

Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on line 22 of Figure 1; and

Figure 3 is a perspective view of the attachment per se, the same being shown in its operative position in dotted lines.

Referring to the drawing in more detail the numeral 1 designates generally a piece of harness, here shown as a breeching strap, although it is to be understood that the reinforcement to be described is intended for use in connection with any and all joints between the straps and the hardware of the harness.

The several straps 2, 3 and 4 of the harness are attached to the metal ring 5 in the usual way and the attachment to be described is inserted between the ring and the loop portions of the straps so as to revent wear on the loops until such time as t e attachment is worn through, thereby greatly extending the life of the harness. i

The attachment consists merely of a stri of leather 6 and a metal loop 7. The loop is provided with a flat lip or foot 8 by means of which it is riveted or otherwise connected to the strip as indicated b the numeral 9. From an inspection of the rawing it will be noted that the loo 7 projects from the foot 8 at an angle slig tly greater than a right angle and is therefore inclined at an acute angle to strip 6, as indicated in Figure 3. The strip 6 is of a width equal to the external width of the loop 7 throughout the greater portion of its length but is notched at both sides of its other end as indicated by numeral 10 so as to rovide the relatively narrow portion 11 w 'ch is adapted to be inserted through loop 7 when the attachment is put Portion llof the strip 6 is also tapered in place on the harness. In applying the attachment to the usual harness construction it is only necessar to disengage the usual buckles found on arthe loop 7 over the strap until the stri 6 is brou ht into position where it forms a ining tor the loop which engages ring 5. The portion 11 of the strip 6 is doubled over upon the main body of the strip and its end passed through loop 7 until the shoulders 10 on the strip engage the edges of the loop. The band 13 1s now slid 1nto place and caused to tightly clamp the tapered portion 12 of the strip 6 against the body of the harness strap and also serves as a stop to prevent movement of the loop 7 along the strap.
