Description

HARRIET'R. TRACY.
SEWING-MACHINE TABLE. No.170,4'16, Patented Nov. 23, 1875.
ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEFIoE.
HARRIET RUTH TRACY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN SEWING-MACHINE TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 170,4 16, dated November 23, 1875; application filed March 6, 187-5.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRIET RUTH TRACY,
- of the city, county, and State of New York,
have made certain new and useful Improvements in Frames for Sewing-Machines; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this description, and in which Figure 1 represents an end "iew of so much of a sewing-machine frame as is necessary to illustrate my present improvements. Fig. 2 represents a top or plan view of the parts shown in Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 represents an edge view of the parts shown in Fig. 1 when turned down.
My present improvements have reference, first, to an improvement in sewing-machine frames. whereby the sewing-machineattachment for which Letters Patent were granted me April 7, 187 4, can be applied to sewing-machines in a more economical, expeditious, and secure manner than they can as sewing-machine frames have heretofore been constructed.
In the drawings, the part marked A represents the outer metallic part of one of the end frame-pieces of a sewing-machine frame. The middle part may be filled in with any suitable ornamental frame-work. One such design or frame-work is shown in the drawings. B B represent ears, which are cast with the part A, and project out, as indicated in the drawings. To these earpieces my said patented attachment can be conveniently hinged, saving a great deal of expense to the manufacturer or person who applies the attachment to the sewing-machine frame, although said earpieces B form no part of my patented attachment, to which reference has been made but, as before stated, they are an improvement upon the sewing-machine proper, whereby said attachment can be applied with greater facility to sewing-machine frames, and that, too, without the use of independent and separate clamping-pieces. Lugs or ears C 0v are cast with the end frame-pieces A, to receive small rolls or wheels D, which are pivot-ed or-journaled to turn between said ear-pieces, one of said rolls or wheels D being arranged at each lower corner of the sewing-machine frame, and arranged so as to turn in planes parallel with the sides of the sewing-machine frame, and at right angles to the 'end pieces A. By this arrangement the motion of the operator in working the treadle, and in working at the table of the machine, is not calculated to cause the machine to move or roll off, as would be the case if the said rolls were arranged to turn in planes parallel with the end pieces A of the frame. I contemplate, however, combining with said rolls or wheels clamping-wedges, or other fastening, if found necessary or desirable, whereby the operator can quickly clamp said rolls rigidly in position, and release them again as oocasion may require.
By means of my improved end frame all sewing-machines may be so constructed as to receive my patented improvement referred to without alteration, expense, orinjury.
I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent- An end frame for a sewing-machine, consisting of the supporting-frame A, provided with ears B, lugs O, and rolls D, all constructed and arranged as shown and described, for the purpose specified.
HARRIET RUTH TRACY.
