P. NATHAN. TRIMMING BOARD.
NQ. 401,454. Patented Apr. 16, 1889.
MW W7 UNITED STATES PATENT Prion.
FRANCES NATHAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
TRlMMlNG-B'OARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 401,454, dated. April 16, 1889. Application filed October 13, 1888- Serial No. 288,010. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANCES NATHAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trimming Boards or Tables, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to an improvement in skirt cutting and trimming boards or tables; and the invention consists in the peculiar combinations, construction, arrangement, and adaptation of parts, all as more fully hereinafter described, and then pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate my invention, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the under side of my improved laphoard, and Fig. 2 a similar view showing my invention in the form of a table.
Referring now to the details of the drawings, A designates the main or central portion of my improved board or table, which has con verging sides, as shown. Attached to this board are two leaves, B, hinged at C. These leaves are of such shape that-when in the position shown in full lines the board will be substantially rectangular. The under side of the board is provided with buttons CL CL, of ordinary construct-ion, for securely holding the leaves in place.
In Fig. 1 I have shown my invention in the form of a lap-board, while in Fig. 2 I have shown the board provided with light hinged legs 1), held in position by the hooks E and eyes e, in which form it may be used as a table; or I may, in lieu of the long legs, fasten shorter legs, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, so as to permit it to be used on an ordinary table or other stand.
It will be evident that this improvement will be a great benefit in setting and trimming dresses, skirts, and the like, butis more especially designed for trimming purposes, as it allows the wide part or bottom of the skirt or dress to be placed upon the full length of the board, and when the top or narrow part requires to be trimmed the leaf on each side may be unfastened by simply turning the buttons, which will allow the leaves to drop without removing the skirt.
Another advantage in my construction is that the leaves can be folded under the board, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, whereby the board or table will require less room than the table of ordinary construction.
Itwill be seen that there are three legs, one
in the center of the front and two on opposite sides, and that as the legs at the sides are hinged at an angle they may be all folded down between the edges of the folded leaves,
as, shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, so as to take up but little room when folded, in which condition it may be used as a lap-board.
lVhat I claim as new is- The combination, in a trimming board or table, of a central portion having its front narrower than its rear, leaves hinged thereto having their front edges wider than their rear edges, a hinged leg attached to the center of the front, and two rear legs hinged to fold at an angle to the sides, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature, in presence of two witnesses, this 11th day of October, 1888.
FRANCES NATHAN.
W'itnesses:
FANNIE I. HART, EDGAR J. NATHAN.
