UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GABRIELLE H. I. YERKES, F BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
:BnAssIERE.
Application filed October 14, 1926. Serial No. 141,550.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive brassiere which .will exert a converging upward pull. on the breasts ofthe -wearer to revent the breasts from sagging; this result being accomplished without injury to the wearer, said brassiere at the same time being so constructed that it is particularly well adapted for use by nursing mothers.
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawin s, in which:
ig. 1 represents the brassiere in front elevation, as 1n use.
Fig. 2 represents the brassiere in side clevation, as in use.
Fi 3 represents an outside view of the brassiere laid out flat.
Fig. 4 represents an inside view of the same.
The brassire has a back portion 1 and two breast supporting portions 2, 3, provided with tapered ends 4, 5, adapted to be crossed over and removably attached to the top of the brassiere at the breast ortions by suitable fastening means. In t e present instance I have provided buttons 6, 7
and their coactingbuttonholes 8, 9, which buttonholes are located in the tabs 10, 11, projecting from the tapered ends 4, 5. Vertical reinforcements 12, 13, are provided across the back portion of the brassiere be tween its top and bottom.
The breast supporting portions 2, 3, of
the brassiere are made with the required fullness, in. the present instance, by tucks or darts held in position at their ends by vertical reinforcements 14, 15, extending between the top and bottom of the brassiere at the bases of the tapered ends 4, 5.
Shoulder straps 16, 17, are secured at their rear ends to the brassiere at the upper ends of the reinforcements 12, 13, and at their front ends to the tops of the breast supporting portions 2, 3 at the points where the tabs 10, 11 of the tapered ends 4, 5 are removably attached to the brassiere.
Elastic means are provided for pulling the bottoms of the breast supporting portions of the brassiere toward each other, which means are herein shown as elastic tabs 18, 19. having suitable coacting fasteners, in the present instance, an eye 20 and a hook 21.
The top and bottom of the brassire are provided-with suitable reinforcing bindings 22, 23 which extend from tab to tab.
When the brassiere is fastened in position around the bust of the wearer, the parts are so shaped and fastened that a converging upward pull is imparted to the breasts, whereby the breasts are held up and properly supported without injury to the wearer. Furthermore, the arrangement of the parts is such that the brassiere is particularly well adapted for use b nursing mothers.
It is evident t at various changes may be resorted to in the construction, form and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit and see c of my invention; hence, I do not wish to limit myself to the particular embodiment herein shown and described, but
What I claim is 1. A brassiere having a back portion provided with vertical reinforcements and breast supporting portions provided with tapered ends having vertical reinforcements at their bases, said ends being adapted to be crossed over each other and removably attached to the top of the brassiere at the breast supporting portions.
2. A brassiere having a back portion provided with vertical reinforcements and breast supporting portions provided with tapered ends havlng vertical reinforcements at their bases, said ends being adapted to be crossed over each other and removably at tached to the topv of the brassiere at the breast supporting portions, and means for pulling the bottoms of the breast supporting portions toward each other.
3. A brassiere having a back portion provided with .vertical reinforcements and breast supporting portions provided with tapered ends having vertical reinforcements at their bases, said ends being adapted to be erossed'over each other and removably attached to the top of the brassierc. at the breast supporting portions, and elastic means for pulling the bottoms of the breast supporting portions toward each other.
4. A brassiere having a back portion developed into two breast supporting portions provided with short tapered ends adapted to be crossed over each other and removably attached to the top of the brassiere about midway of the breast supporting portions, and shoulder straps secured at their rear ends to the-top of the brassiere at the back portion and at their front. ends to the top of the brassiere at the points where the short tapered ends are attached thereto.
5. A brassiere having a back portion developed into two breast supporting portions provided with short tapered ends adapted to be crossed over each other and removably attached to the top of the brassiere about midway of the breast supporting portions, shoulder straps secured at their rear ends to the top of the brassiere at the back portion and at their front ends to the to of the brassiere at the points Where the s ort tapered ends are attached thereto, and means for pulling the bottoms of the breast supporting portions of the brassiere toward each other.
' 6. A brassiere having a back portion de- I breast supporting portions of the brassiere toward each other.
In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my invention, 1 have signed my name this 13th da of @ctober, 1926.
GA RIELLE M. P YERKES.
