My invention relates to undergarment construction. v
The object of the invention is to provide a type of construction for womens underwhich will allow the nursing of a child with out the removal of the undergarment, which will at the same time support thebreasts v and allow expansion, which will eliminate the danger of permanent injury to the wearer because of binding, which may be usedin the manufacture of brassiere, corsets, or any other under-garment for the up- .per portion of the body. Y
It is a matter of common knowledge that during the'period of pregnancy, and during the period of child nursing the breasts of a woman are enlarged to greater than normal size. If the breasts are notsupported in any way during this period they become elongated and unshapely. If a garmeht of the pattern nowprevalent is used, the breasts are bound too tightly and there is great danger. of permanent injury to the milk forming glands of the wearer. Also under the garments in present use it is necessary during .the period of nursing the child to remove the garment for the nursing of the child. It is to eliminate these objections that the construction 'herein described was designed,
and invented.
With the above and other objects in view as will more fully appear from the specification, claim, and drawing, my invention consists 1n the details of construction to be more fully described hereinafter. One'con struction embodying my invention is shown In the accompanying one sheet drawlng, in which,
0 i ral is a perspective view of the brasf siere incorporating my construction. Fig.
2 is a perspective and illustrative view of a barcole'tte incorporati'n my construction.
Like characters'of regerence designate like The t of construction consists in patterning e front part of the garment with two substantiall V-shaped opening: 1, 2, spacedasdesi tpcon ormto the dy of,
IO any sized woman asdesired. V-shaped flaps 8, 4, are provided for-each of said. openings and are securely fastened along the outer edge of each opening at 5, 6. The top edge of eachflap is tucked and equipped with an elastic band as at 7 and 8. Between the 5 garments which is new, novel and of util1ty,-
openings in the garment the material is folded in three large pleats 9,10 and 11, to allow for expansion, The upper edge of the material between the openings is tucked and equipped with elastic also as at 12.
The inner edge of each opening is also equipped with elastic as at l3, 14. The flaps 3, 4, are held closed by hooks which are secured, to the corners of the flaps at 15, 16. The hooks 15, 16, engage eyelets at 17 18.
' ,In wearing a garment of this construction either the flaps may be nnhooked thus baring the breast for nursing. 'VVhen hooked the elastic binding and the pleats and tucks in the material allow the garment to cbnform to the body of the wearer and at thesame time the garment supports the breasts of the wearer without binding and without injury in anyway. v The invention upon which this application 'is' based is broader than the specific illustration shown in the accompanying drawing. It is to be understood that I reserve the right to make such changes in the construction set forth as will not depart from the original spirit of the invention, nor the scope of the subjoined claim.
I claim:
In combination, the bosom covering portion of an undergarment, as described, having two. substantially V-shaped sections spaced to engage the breasts of the wearer and having their apexes extendin downwardly, said V-shaped sections fitting oversimilar. shaped apertures in the garment, being fixedly secured to the garment along their outside edges, and being detachably secured to the garment along their inside edges, both adapted to be opened, thus baring the breasts of the wearer, elastic bands,
I tucksand' gathers, along theupper edge of said V-shaped sections and along the three edges of the V-shaped sectlons, all adapted to support the breasts of the wearer without bindmg.
