BATTERY TERMINAL CLAMI: FULLER;
Application filed A rn 2?, i928.- Serial no. erases.
This invention relates 'to a battery terminal clamp puller, the general object of the invention being to provide a cross piece having a jaw pivoted to each end thereof, with a' recess at the center of the cross piece for receiving a nut through which a threaded shaft passes, with a handle at one end of the shaft and its other end pointed to engage a terminal while the jaws are engaging the clamp on the terminal so that by screwing the shaft downwardly, the clamp will be forced from the terminal.
Another object of the invention is to form the cross piece of two members which are spaced apart by the jaws so that the shaf and its handle can be passed between them and the nut removed from the recess so that the device can be used as ahandle for carrying a battery, with the lower edges of the two 2 parts of the cross piece rounded to prevent injury to the hand gripping the cross piece.
Thls invention also consistsdn certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the severalparts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in-the appended claims.
In describing my mvention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several Views, and which Figure 1 is an elevation showing how the device is used to remove a clamp from a bat tery terminal.
Figure 2 is an edge view of the device. Figure 3 is a section on line 33 of F1gure 1. i
Figure 4 is a top plan view of the device. Figure 5 is a detail view showing the recess for .the nut, this view also showing the nut.
Figure 6 is a view showing how the shaft and its handle may be passed between the two, parts of the cross piece. j
Figure 7 is a view showing how the device is used to carrya battery; 7
In these views, the cross piece is shown at r- A, and it is composed of the two members 1 havin their central portions offset outwardl to orm the recesses 3. The upper ends of the jaw members +1 are laced etweenthe members'l and are pivota lyconn'ected therehaving their lower edges rolled as at 2 andwith by the pins 5. Thus the jaws space the two members lapart. A nut. 6 has portions engaging the recesses 3 and said nut is provided with the oppositely arranged wings 7 formed with the downwardly and inwardly sloping upper faces8 for receiving portions of the rounded parts 2 of the members 1,-as
shown in Figure 3. A screw shaft 9 passes through the nut and has a handle 11 at its upper end. The lower end-ofthe shaft is polnted to engage a terminal of the battery, as shown in Figure 1. A chain 12 connects the nut with a part of the cross piece.
i From the foregoing it will, be seen that when the nut is placed in the recesses 3 and the hooked-endsof the jaws 4' placedlunder the clamp O of battery B,-'with the end of the shaft engaging the top of the terminal T of the-battery, by turning the shaft, pres'-' sure will-be exerted by thejaws on the under side of the clampC and thus the clamp will be forced from they terminal.
When the deviceis to be used as a handle for carrying a battery; as; shown in Figure/Z, the shaft and its handle are pressed downwardlyto'free the nut from the cross piece and the handle passed between the two members 1 of the'cross piece so that the shaft and nut will hang free by the chain and thus the entire cross piece can beused as a hand grip, the rounded portions preventing injury to the hand of the user.
. It isthought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
ing a cross piece composed of'two members each hav ng an internal recess at its center, with the lower edge ofeach member rolled,
a pair of jaws having their upper ends pivoted between themembers of the cross piece at the ends thereof, a nut removably seated in the recesses and having wings forming seats forthe rounded portions of the membersiof the cross piece, avscrewshaft passing through-the nut, a handle on the upper end of the shaft and a chain connecting the I nut with a part of the cross piece.
the recesses and having wings forming seats for the enlarged portions of the members of the cross piece, a screw shaft passing through 10 the nut and a handle on the upper end of the shaft.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature. PAUL PHILLIP HINOTE.
