My invention relates to improvements in undergarments, suon as brassieres and the like, and it consists in the combinations, constructions, and arrangements herein described and claimed.

in object of my invention is to provide a construction which will. permit of the use oi noneelastic shoulder straps, While permitting the shoulder straps to move to accommodate the movements ofi the body.

A further object to provide a construction having elastic means which will permit the shoulder straps to move with the body, 'these elastic means being` normally hidden by the garment itself.

A further object is to provide agarinent having .elastic means for permitting the movement of the shoulder straps which will permit the use` of inelastic shoulder straps that can be detached and washed. y

Other objects and advantages will appear in the following specification, and the novel iieatures of the invention will be particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

In carrying out my invention, I malte use of an undergarment such as a brassire l. On the inside ot the garment, below the upper edge thereof, I provide a pocket E2 which is made by taking a piece ot suitable niatcrial and stitching it at the side edges., as shown at 3, to the/body olir the arment. rlhe upper edges are preferably turned over and henimed as at li. A piece ot elastic webbing 5 is secured at its lower edge Within the pocket, the lower edge of the pocket being preferably formed into a hem and a row of stitching 6 being provided for holding the webbing in the hem. The webbing 5 is continued out of the pocket and is provided Wit-h a button 7.

A shoulder strap 8, which may be a ribbon or other suitable band, is provided with a buttonhole 9 arranged to receive the kbutton 7 and this strap may be fastened in front in Vstraps is that shown in Figures l and Q.

The use of such device gives flexibility to the shoulder strap, and at the same time it permits the use of a noirelastic shoulder strap Which can be taken oil and Washed. It adds but little to the cost ot the garment, and, since the elastic band is largely concealed, it in nowise detracts from the appearance.

It frequently happens that inthe construe tion of garments such as the present, the garment is made up of a numb-er of individual parts. These parts are seWed together and thel seams are covered With stripping. The stripping serves two purposes; namely, as a means for covering the seams so as to pre-v vent the seam from contacting with the body oit the wearer, and as a concealing means. In Figure 4 I have shown the stripping 11 used in lieu of the pocket 2. The stripping l1 is arranged to cover a seam 1l. In this construction the elastic portion 4; is secured betweenthe stripping 11 and the garment by stitching 6. The stripping 11 is cut off near the top ol the garment for Inumittiug the attaching of the shoulder strap 8 to the button 7. Thus it will be seen that the stripping ll serves the purposes above mentioned, and at the same time provides a pocket for the elastic portion 4.

In both cases, the elastic band is largely concealed but it serves the purpose of permitting the movement with a non-elastic shoulder strap which would not be possible if the f shoulder strap were connected rigidly to the garment.
