Claims.

My invention relates to a foundation garment and dress ensemble, and more particularly to one which can be readily gotten into, but which is form fitted and constitutes a complete garment ensemble.

Most housecoats or other similar garments, are not form fitting, nor are they of such a character as to be considered suitable for street wear. In the present instance, I have developed a garment quite suitable for street wear, but which i'sas handy to get into as a housecoat or other similar garment.

It is an object of my invention to provide a foundation garment and dress combination suitable for both indoor and outdoor wear by constructing an ensemble consisting of a step-in dress, a brassire and panties; all of which are suitably fastened or stitched together to provide a unitary form fitted garment.

For a more detailed understanding of my invention, reference may be had to the accompanying drawing illustrating a preferred embodiment thereof, in which like parts throughout the several views are indicated by like characters, and in which Fig. l is a perspective view of the foundation garment and dress ensemble on a person;

- The foundation garment and dress ensemble, as shown, comprises a step-in dress or garment l0, open at the front as at II, this opening extending to the bottom of the dress as shown in Fig. l and fastened together by any suitable fastening means such as a zipper or the like. The dress is provided with a neck opening I! and arm openings 13 of conventional design and form, although suitably finished and made as ornamental and form fitting as desired.

A brassiere is attached to the dress as shown in Fig. 4, preferably being stitched to the dress along the edge of the neck opening as at IE, to the shoulder as at [6, around the front of the arm opening as at I? and part way along the edge of the front dress opening as at I8, the lower edge of the brassire being provided with an elastic portion l9, preferably formed by stitching in an elastic thread to insure a form fit of the brassiere over the bust. The brassire is of conventional construction, the opposite end portions of same being respectively secured or stitched in a suitable manner to the right and left side of the dress, as shown. The two end portions A and B of the brassire member are connected by a waist band 20 extending around the back of the dress and generally positioned at the waist line.

A pair of panties 2| is secured to the brassire member, preferably to the back lower edge of the waist band 20 as at 22. Preferably these panties are detachably secured at 22 to the waist band 28 so that same can be readily removed for laundering and cleaning. Therefore, the panties are preferably secured to the waist band 20 by a zipper or other suitable fastening means. The front waist line of the panties is provided with an elastic stitching, 23.

A'belt 25 is fastened to the dress at each side at the waist line and the two ends of thebelt are arranged to be-tied together as at 26 at the front, and when so tied, the dress is snugly fitted to theperson wearing this garment ensemble.

It will be observed that the waist band of the bras sire member which extends around the back, serves to hold the brassiere in correct position, and cooperates with the panties which are fastened thereto to provide a form fitting ensemble, the dress being stitched to the brassire, is correctly held in position, and the whole ensemble is suitable for wear either indoors or outdoors.

While the waist band 20 is preferably not stflched or fastened to the dress, it may be secured thereto, if desired, by means of stitching, thereby further insuring a correct form fitting ensemble. It is noted however that stitching 30 is usually omitted as the panties serve to hold this waist band 20 in proper position.

It will be apparent that various changes and modifications of construction can be made without departing from the scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. A foundation garment ensemble comprising a step-in dress opened vertically in the front from the neck edging of said dress to a point closely adjacent the lower hem of the skirt por-.

tion of said dress, and an inner garment comprising brassiere portions each providing a pocket adapted to fit the bust of the wearer, each brassire portion secured-to the dress along an edge of the front vertical opening and to the edging of the dress along the front portion of the neck opening and arm opening, and a waist comprising a back and -two side portions extending around the back and sides of the wearer, said side portions extending upwardly and connected with the brassiere portions below the arm openings and said pockets, and panties secured only to the back portion of said waist about the back of the wearer, the upper front edge of the panties being free from attachment to said waist portion and provided with an elastic portion serving to support the ensemble-on said wearer.

2. A foundation garment ensemble comprising a step-in dress opened vertically in the front from the neck edging of said dress to a point closely adjacent the lower hem of the skirt portionof said. dress, and an inner garment comprising brassiere portions each providing a pocket adapted to fit the bust of the wearer, each bras siere portion secured to the dress along an edge of the front vertical opening and to the edging of the dress along the front portion of the neck opening and arm opening, and a waist comprising a back and two side portions, extending only around the back and sides of the wearer, said side portions extending upwardly and connected with the brassiere portions below the arm, open ings and said pockets, and panties secured only to the back portion ofsaid waist about the back of the wearer, the upper front edge of the panties being free from attachment to said Waist portion and provided with an elastic portion serving to support the ensemble on said wearer, said vertical dress opening disposed intermediate the bust pockets, and zipper means securing the edges of the aforesaid vertical dress opening together and serving to likewise secure the adjacent side edges of the brassiere together intermediate the bust pockets.

A foundation garment ensemble comprising a step-in dress opened vertically in the front from the neck edging of said dress to a point closely adjacent the lower hem of the skirt portion of said dress, and an inner garment comprising brassiere portions each providing a pocket adapted tofit the bust of the wearer, each brassiere portion secured to the dress along an edge of the front vertical opening and to the edging of the dress along the front portion of the neck opening and arm opening, and a waist comprising a back andtwo 'side portions extending only around the back and sides of, the wearer, said side portions extending upwardly and connected with the brassiere, portions below the arm openings and saidpockets, and panties secured only to the back portion of said waist about the back of the wearer, the upper front edge of the panties being free from attachment to said waist portion and providedwith an elastic portion serving to support the ensemble on said wearer, said vertical dress opening disposed intermediate the bust pockets, and zipper means securing the edges of the aforesaid vertical dress opening together and serving to likewise secure the adjacent side edges of the brassiere together intermediate the bust pockets, the lower peripheral portion of eachpocket provided with an elastic portion, said pockets being perman'ently connected together by said waist portion only about the back of the wearer, said panties being detachably secured to the lower edge of the waist portion only around the wearers back.

4. A foundation garment ensemble comprising a step-in dress opened vertically in the front from the neck edging of said dress to a point closely adjacent the lower hem of the skirt portion of said dress, and an inner garment comprising brassiere portions each providing a pocket adapted to fit the bust of the wearer, each brassiere portion secured to the dress. along an edge of the front vertical opening and to the edging of the dress along the front portion of the neck opening and arm opening, and awaist comprising a back and two side portions extending only around the back and sides of the wearer, said side portions extending upwardly and connected with the brassiere portions below the arm openings and said pockets, and panties secured only to the back portion of said waist about the back of the wearer, the upper front edge ofthe panties being free from attachment to said waist portion and provided with an elastic portion serving to the wearers back, said inner garment of said.
