IMPROVEMENT IN COT-BEDSTEADS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169,880, dated November 9, 1875; application filed March 17, 1875. i
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, LEONARD WoRoEs- TER, of West Brattleborough, Windham county, Vermont, and JOSHUA B. Howe, of Readsborough, in the county of Bennington and in the .State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Got- Bedsteads; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descriptiou thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of our invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a cot-bedstead, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to make and usethe same, we will now pro-- oeed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which Figure l is a longitudinal vertical section through the line as m, Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a plan view of our invention.
A A represent two parallel side beams connected a suitable distance from the ends by means of cross-bars B B, having legs 0 pivoted upon their ends immediately inside of the side beams. The legs 0 G on each crossbar B are connected by means of rounds at a. D D represent the slats supported on the cross-bars B B,,and held thereon by means of staples b b, which pass through the slats. On the lower round a connecting the two legs (3 G, at the foot of the bed, are pivoted two arms, E E, which are made to catch on the rounds of the foot-rest G pivoted between the extreme ends, thus holding the foot'rest in proper position. The head-rest is formed of two vertical arms, E E, which extend suitably above the slats D. These arms are connected by rounds d, and pivoted at their hottoms, at a, to the lower ends of the pivoted legs 0'. At this end of the cot in the main frame are rounds e, and pivoted to the arms E are hooked arms H, which latter catch over the rounds e, and hold the headrest at any inclination desired. It is, ofcou'rse, understood that we may use either of these devices at either end of the bedstead.
When the bedstead is not in use the legs and ends can be folded close to the body, so as not to take up much room.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isl 1. The combination of the frame A B, hinged legs O G, arms E E, and foot-rest G, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
