EDWARD L, MOONEY, `OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA, ASSIGNOR TO COSBY-WIRTH MANIFOLD BOOK COMPANY, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA, A CORPORATION F MINNESOTA.
SALES-BOOK COVER.
Application lcd November 30, 1927.
My present invention relates to a sales book cover and has for its object the provision of a simple and highly eflicient sales book and tissue book holders therefor, and to this end the invention consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described and defined in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, like characters indi-V enlarged scale F 4 is a fragmentary detail view in section taken on the line 4 4 of Fig. 2, on an en- 1iarged scale;
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary plan View of the parts shown in AFig. 1, on an enlarged scale;
6 is a fragmentary perspective view of the sales book as shown in Fig. 1 with the sales book and tissue book removed;
Fig. 7 is a fragmentary detail View in section taken on the line 7 7 of F ig. 5, on an enlarged scale; and
Fig. 8 is a fragmentary detailview in section taken on the line 8 8 of Fig. 6, on an enlarged scale.
The sales book cover illustrated comprises a back section 9, an intermediate section 10, and a cover section 11. Said intermediate section 19 is hinged to the right-hand longitudinal edge of the back section 9 for folding movement thereon and the cover section 11 is hinged to the left-hand longitudinal edge of the back section 9 for folding movement onto said intermediate section.
A holder for a sales book A is permanently and riO'idly attached to the upper face of the intermediate section at the top thereof and comprises a fiat metal base plate 12, an abutment 13 and a bail 14. Said base plate 12 eX- tends substantially the full width of the intermediate section 10 and its upper edge portion is turned perpendicular to the upper face of said intermediate section, and then folded inward upon itself to form an abutment 13. The abutment 13 has a tubular bead 15 in the angle between said abutment and the Vand the carbon sheets are Serial No. 236,682.
oase plate 12. The outer end portions of the arms of the bail 14 are bent laterally toward each other to form a pair of trunnions 16 pivotally mounted in the tubular bead 15 and to attach said bail to the abutment 13 for swinging movement toward and from the intermediate section 10.
The a 1rangement of the leaves and carbon sheetsV comprising the sales book A is well known and for the purpose of this case itis thought sufficient to simply state that the leaves on which the triplicate copy is made attached by staples B to a back C original ycopy is madek are formed with the free ends of the attached leaves and folded thereon.
In attaching the sales book A to the interand the sheets on which the mediate section 10 by means of the improved holder, the back C of said book is inserted between the arms of the bail 14 until stopped by the staples B, as best shown in Fig. 7. In this position of the sales book A its top engages the abutment 13 and is held by the bail in contact therewith so that the sales book A is firmly held against endwise or angular movements on the intermediate section l0 and the arms of the bail hold said book against lateral shifting .movement on said intermediate section.
Permanently attached to the lower end of the section 10 at the left-hand corner thereof is a thumb piece 17 by which said section maybe opened and closed.
Used in conjunction with the sales book A is a tissue book D on the leaves of which a duplicate copy is made. This tissue book D is attached to the back section 9 at the lefthand edge thereof by an improved holder in a manner in which the leaves of said book may be folded one at a time between the uppermost leaf of the book A and its underlying carbon sheet. The holder for the tissue book D is rigidly and permanently secured to the upper face of the back section 9 and comprises a flat metal base plate 18, a clamping flange 19 and a co-operating clamping bail 20. The clamping flange 19 is formed by bending the outer longitudinal edge portion of the base plate 18 perpendicular to the back section 9 and then folding the same inward upon itself.- The inner longitudinal edge portion of the base plate 18 is folded upon itself to form a tubular bead 21 and the end portions of the arms of the bail 20 are bent laterally toward each other and pivotally mounted in the ends of the tubular bead 21. v
To attach the tissue lbook D to the back section betweenthe flange 19 and said bail,`
as showyfl ',n-Figf. It willbe noted that the height tissue book D so that one leaf thereofcan be inserted between. the uppermost leaf yof the sales book A and the underlying carbon. sheetrand with the used leaves of said tissue,
book` interposed between the intermediate section 10 and back lsection y9. The unused portionof theftiss'uebook D rests on the inner facezoftlie top section 11.
The position inwhichthe tissue bookD is` held by .theA flange 19 and bail 20, as shown in 23, 4is'highly,`important. in that it permitsithe[leaguel thereof to, project completely transversely'across the sales book A,'as shown in v,1, in order that all indicia written on the lupperrnost leaf of said sales book will appearrin 4duplicate on the underlying leaf of saidtissue book. Aft-,erthe uppermostleaf of thebook ,A has been filled in, the salesman lifts4 theinftervmediate section 11 by means of a tliumbpiece 1f( and-thereby withdraws the v leafof the tissue book D fronyrthe sales book A and'allowsythe same to drop Onto the back sectionu),y fllhef intermediate` section lO is thenfreturned vtoits normal position in which it r'es'tson'tlie usedclea'ves of the tissue book D. The -salesman then'detaches the leavesl containing the original andv triplicate copy from he I l y sheet from= lthe book Aat its bound upper end.
of the flange 19 is such as to hold the book A, by tearing` the ,triplicate the uppermost leaf of the book A and the underlying carbon, ready for the necessary entriesat the time the nextrsale is made. The bail 2O andro-operating clamping flange 19 securely hold the tissue book D on the back Ysection.9.and may be readily detached from the sales book cover simply by lifting the bail Q0 and withd'rawin'gitsback section of its cover therefrom.
VVhatl claim is: Y
l. A sales bookcover comprising aback section, an intermediate section, a cover section and a tissue book holder von the back section comprising a fixed base plate having an upstanding.'clamping flange and a bail piv otednto the base plate at a distant point from theV clamping flange and normally extending toward theclamping flange with its trans` verse portion'co-operating therewith 'to clamp one of the covers of the tissue bookbetween the clamping' flange and bail Aand secure the tissue book Yto the sales book cover.
2. A salesbook cover comprising al back section, an intermediate section, a cover section and a tissue book holder on the vbacksection comprising a fixed base plate having an upstandmg clamping flange, and a clamping bailpivoted tothe base plate at a distant point from the clamping flange with its transverse portion co-operatingtherewith to clamp one of the covers ofthe tissue book between the clampinggilange and bail and secure the tissue b ookto' the sales bool; cover with said cover-.of the tissue book intermediately folded at substantially rightY angles with one section thereof extending' substantially 'parallel' to theclamping'fiange and with the 'other sec-V tion thereofextending'between the arms of the clamping-bail and between said back and intermediate sections.
H In testimony whereof l affix my signature.
