srars EDWARD L. MOONEY, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
TRIPLIOA'IE SALES BOOK Appflication filed June 6, 1921. Serial No. 475,221.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD L. MOONEY, am a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented cer tain new and useful Improvements in Triplicate Sales Books; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My present invention relates to triplicate sales books, and has for its object to provide such a book that is extremely simple, of comparatively small cost to manufacture and easy to handle and to interfold the leaves prior to making a triplicate record therein of a sale. 7
To the above end, generally stated, the invention consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described and defined in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the improved triplicate sales book with the cover open and the leaves interfolded for making a triplicate record of a sale;
Fig. 2 is a view partly in end elevation and partly in section taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a view partly in side elevation and partly in section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 1 is a perspective View with the cover and secondary back open and with all of the duplicate record leaves folded onto the main back;
Fig. 5 is a view corresponding to Fig. 4, with the exception that a portion of the duplicate record leaves are turned to one side of the main back; and
Fig. 6 is a View substantially like Fig 1, with the exception that the top main record leaf is turned out into alignment with the triplicate record leaf, to which it is attached to expose the duplicate record leaf folded between said main and triplicate leaves.
The improved triplicate sales book includes a main back 7, a secondary back 8, a cover 9, main record leaves 10, duplicate record leaves 11 and trip ica e record lea es 2-v The main and supplemental backs, together with the cover cut from a single sheet of tough paper, such as rope rag, and with the supplemental backs 8 at the right-hand edge of the main back 7 and arranged to be folded, on the scored line 13, upon or over the main back 7, as best shown in Figs. 1 and 6. The cover 9 is integral with the upper edge of the main back 7 and arranged to be folded over the two backs 7 and 8 and the record leaves 1O, 11 and 12.
The main and triplicate record leaves are arranged in pairs cut from a single sheet of paper and connected at their lower edges for folding movement, the former upon the latter. To permit the main leaves 10 to be easily detached from the triplicate record leaves 12, said leaves are perforated at 14: on their joined edges. Thetriplicate record leaves 12 are arranged in a pad and secured at their upper edge portions to the main back 7 by staples 15. Primarily, the main record leaves 10 are folded upon the triplicate record leaves 12, towhich they are attached. To permit the triplicate record leaves 12 to be easily detached from their stubs 16, they are perforated at 17 It will be noted that the main leaves 10, when folded onto the triplicate record leaves 12, terminate substantially on the perforated lines 17. The duplicate record leaves 11 are cut from transparent paper or parchment, arranged in a pad and secured to the left-hand edge of the main back 7 and arranged to be interfolded between the main and triplicate record leaves. As an extremely simple means of attaching the pad of duplicate leaves to the main back 7, the left-hand edge of said back is extended outward and folded upon itself to afiord a binding flap 18, to receive the left-hand edge portion of the pad of duplicate leaves 11 which are secured thereto by staples 19.
Overlying the pad of triplicate leaves 12 is a double-faced carbon sheet 20secured with the stubs 16 to the main back 7 and arranged to be interfolded betweenv the dulplicate and triplicate leaves. It will be noted that the leaves of each pad of main and duplicate leaves are consecutively numbered from the top down and the pad of triplicate leaves are consecutively numbered from the bottom up, as indicated at 21, so that the. three leaves ofeach record bear corresponding numbers.
It is important to note that the scored side ofethe main back 7.
In Fig. 1, the leaves of the book are arranged and folded to mak atriplicate recordon leaves 2 thereof. To thus arrange the. leaves, the top main leaf 1() is turned outward, which allows :the carbon sheet 20 to drop onto the underlying triplicate leaf 12, and the transparent or second leaf 11 is transversely foldedonto the carbon sheet 20 which overlies the triplicate leaf 12, as
indicated in Fig. 6. The outturned main leaf 10 is then folded onto the secondary leaf 11. In writing on the uppermost main leaf ,10, carbon impressions are made on the back of the underlying transparent duplicate leaf 11, and are readabletherethrough, and on the face of the uppermost triplicate leaf 12. After the record is complete, the main leaf 10 is detached from the triplicate leaf 12 on the line 14 and given to the cashier, as a record of the'sale. The triplicate leaf 12 is detached from its stub 16 and given to the customer, and the secondary leaf remains inthe book :as a permanent record. After the main and triplicate leaves have been detached from the book, the respective secondary leaves are successively folded onto the main back, as shown in Fig. 5. The .unused secondary leaves 11 are turned outward, as indicated in the drawings, and, when holding the book in the hand, when making a record, these outturned leaves may be folded under the main back 7. l/Vhen the book is filled up and all of the main and triplicate leaves ly manufactured, and by the use of the same, auxiliary covers, which are objectionabl for the reason that they are expenslve to manufacture as they require the use of metal and for that reason areHheavy-and awkward to handle, are dispensed with.
ll hat I claim is:
1. A triplicate sales book comprising a main back, a secondary back, said backs being connected, triplicate leaves attached to the upper edge of the secondary back and arranged to be folded therewith upon the main back, main leaves attached to the lower edges .of the triplicate leaves and arrangedto be folded thereon, duplicate transparent leaves attached to the opposite edge of the main back from the secondary back and arranged to be folded between the triplicate and main leaves, between the main andsecondary backs and upon'the stack of main and triplicate leaves, and a double-faced carbon sheet attached to and overlying the triplicate leaves.
2. The structure defined in claim 1 in further combination with .a cover attached to the upper edge of the main back.
3. The structure defined in claim 1 in which the connected edges of the triplicate and main leaves extend outward of the lower edges of the main and secondary backs to afford a finger hold.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
EDlVARD L. MOONEY.
