SALES-BOOK OR PAD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 58,914, dated April 20, 189'?. i
l Application filed/August 17, 1896. Serial No. 603,056. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern.-
Be it known that we, HAMILTON H. WEBBER and SAMUEL J. BINGNEE, residing at Mansiield, in the county of Richland and State of Ohio,'have invented a new and Improved Sales-Book or Pad, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention is in the nature of a manifold sales-book or pad; and such invention primarily has for its object to provide a salesbook of this character of a very simple and economical nature which when not in use will fold up in book form for convenient carrying in the pocket. i
Furthermore, our invention seeks to provide a book or pad having the sheets or slips and the carbon so arranged that the necessity of raising or adjusting a sheet or slip and placing the carbon in posit-ion is avoided, whereby the entry can be the more quickly and accurately made.
IVith other objects in view, which hereinafter will be fully set forth, our invention consists in a manifold sales-book or pad embodying the peculiar combination and arrangement of parts such as will bev iirst described in detail, and then be specifically pointed out.
in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of our sales-l book or pad extended ready for use, the top or entry slip being partially torn away to show the carbon-sheet. Figs. 2 and 2 illustrate the purchasers and the cashier or desk slips torn oif. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of a portion of the book. Fig. 4 is a plan View of the same Openedout. Fig. 5 is a view of one of the double sheets, illustrating the manner in which the store advertisement is printed thereon. Fig. 6 is a cross-section on the line 6 6 of Fig. 3; and Fig. 7 is a view of the book or pad closed.
In its practical construction our sales-book pad comprises a series of sheets A, which are made in double length, so that when folded centrally each sheet forms two slips, one for the customer and one for the cashier or desk. These sheets have provided thereon near the center the advertisement of the storekeeper, such advertisement appearing on top of the sheet at one side of the center when the sheet is opened out and also onv the under side near the center, so that when the end A is turned down over-the carbon the advertisement will appear at the top of the slip. At a point between the advertisements on the sheets such sheets have a double row of perforations B B, and at the top between the perforations the pack of sheets has a reinforce-strip C, under which one end of the carbon-sheet D is held, which is secured by the wire staples E E,which also secure the strip C, the pack of sheets A, and the iiexible or cardboard cover F,which cover, it will be noticed, is of a single piece the length of the sheet-packs.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be readily seen that our invention presents a very simple and inexpensive construction ofsales-book or pad, as the sheets, being of double length'and provided with the advertisements 'on opposite sides of the ends, produces the customers and store slips. Furthermore,su ch construction avoidsthe necessity of lifting the sheets or slips at any time for the proper insertion of the carbon, a-s the same will at all times be in a proper position for use.
In operation the clerk drops the undermost leaf of the top end of the pad down over the carbon, as shown in Fig. 1, and after making entry tears olf the top sheet for the customer and the first sheet under the carbon for the cashier or desk.
By providing a solid or reinforced part at the center the slips can be readily detached and a securing portion or space-block for the carbon always remains. Furthermore, the arrangement of parts is such as to admit of the book being closed up iiat for convenient carrying in the pocket.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. An improved sales-book or pad comprising a series or package of leaves one end of which has the advertisement on the upper face, and the other end a similar advertisement on the under face, said package having a double series of perforations at a point midway thereof, acarbon-sheet held over the top printed portion of the sheet and secured at one end to the center of the pack and means IOO for securing the pack of leaves together to form a solid portion at a point between the perforations substantially as shown and for the purposes described.
2. An improved sales-book or pad consisting of a package of leaves, having at one end p rated portion of the pack, a reinforce-piece held on such end of the carbon, a flexible cover formed of a single sheet and means for I securing the leaf-packs the carbon, the reinforce and the cover` substantially as shown and for the purposes described.
