IMPROVEMENT IN BLIND-SLAT ADJUSTERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l 69,570, dated November 2.1875 application led October 14, 1875.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE NICHOLS, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blind-Slat Fasteners, of which the following is a specification:

This invention relates to an improved automatic fastening device for holding the movable slats of Window-blinds and doors in any position in which they may be placed; and it consists in, a small pad of rubber or other equivalent elastic material, provided with a recess, by which it may be automatically secured over the end of one of the movable or shifting slats of a slatted door or blind, and, by binding against the inside of the frame of the blind or door in which the slats are pivoted, thus automatically hold them in any desired position in which they may be placed.

In the drawings, Figure l represents'a View of an Ordinary blind, provided with movable or shifting slats, showing my improved automatic blind-Slat fastener; and Fig. 2, a detached View of the fastener.

'lhe letter A represents a small block or pad of elastic vulcanized rubber or other suitable elastic material, having a recess, a, on one side, of such size as to t neatly over the end of one of the movable slats B of the blind, said slats being pivoted in the frame C, and connected together, as usual, by means of a rod, D, in such manner that the whole can be moved together. Said block or pad is of such thickness that it will bind against the inner side of the frame O when in place, and by its friction hold the slats in any position in which they may be placed, at the same time allowing them to be shifted at convenience.

The pad or block, in the present instance, is represented as rectangular in shape; but it is evident that the shape may be modified without altering the character of my invention. For instance, the pad may be made oi' a circular or polygonal shape, or in the shape of a disk or button, which will probably be' the most convenient shape to manufacture. Instead of rubber, leather, felt, or any other fabric or substance of sufficient elasticity to properly bind between the end of the slats and the blind-frame, may be employed.

As thus constructed, an inexpensive and efficient device may be obtained, that can be readily applied to any blind Without cutting or altering the same for the purpose, and which will in no manner def-ace or injure the woodwork, as is the case With all devices for the V purpose hitherto in use.

I am aware that metallic spring-disks have been used at the end of a slat for the purpose of holding the slats in any position to which they may be adjusted; but such is not my invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The automatic blindslat fastener7 consisting of a pad or block of rubber or other elastic material, slotted on one side, and adapted to iit over the end of a movable or shifting slat, and bind against the inner side of the blindframe, in such manner as to automatically adjust itself, and at the same time hold the slats in any desired position, substantially as described.
