LINGERIE CLASP.
Application ma 25,
vided with a pin whereby the'clasp may be 7 attached to the dress,1waist or outer garment of the wearer to prevent it from slipping down the lingerie strapsor'off the shoulder;
One object of the present invention is to provide-a clasp of this type inwhich the atcaching pin is of the safety variety and, is pivotally connected to the top bar of the clasp so that it may be swung laterallythereunder when the wearer desires to use the clasp 1 without the pin.
vide a clasp of the aforementionedcharacter in which the pivotal connection for the attaching pin is at the side of the top bar and is disposed beneath the upper surface thereof so that neither the connection nor the pin will be exposed to abrade the outer garment of the wearer when the pin is in its inoperative position.
A. further object of the invention is to pro-' vide a lingerie clasp which is of new and improved construction and may he manufactured at acomparatively low cost.
The invention consists in the severalnovel features hereinafatrset forth and more particularly defined by the claims at the conclusion hereof. I
In the drawing: Fig. lis a perspective of a'clasp embodyingthe invention. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view through the central portion of the clasp, the attaching pin being shown in its operative position. Fig. 8 is a view similar to Fig. 2, the pin being shown in its inoperative position. r The invention is exemplified in a clasp comprising a flat metal loop 5 which is adapted to receiveand hold together a plurality of lingerie'shoulder straps, as well understood in the art. Lo op5 consists of a bottom bar 6 y and a top bar 7 which is connected at one end thereof to the bottom bar by a bowed end portion 8. The other end of top bar 7 is curved as at 9 to form a hook-portion 10 which is adapted to be sprung around a curved seat 11. The latter is formed at the free end of bottom bar 6. r The clasp also comprises a. in 12 which is connected to top bar 7 as ereinafter'de scribed and is adapted to be attached to the dress, waist or outer garment of the wearer to prevent the. clasp from slipping down the lingerie straps or off the shoulder. Pin 12 is Another object'of the invention is to pro- 1927. Serial No. 193,970.
of the safety variety and consists of a strip 7 I of wire which is bent to form apin-member 13, a connecting loop 14: and a retaining member 15. of member 15 and is provided with aguard or catch 17 for receiving the pointed end of pinmember 13 whenthe latter is in its" closed position. Pin 12 is connected to top bar 7 by a tongue 18 which is formed as an integral x part of said bar and projects laterally from one of the side margins thereof. Tongue 18 is bent inwardly and around the'head retaining member of pin 12' to form a pivotal connection. This connection permits the pin to be swung from its operative position (Figs. 1 and 2) to an inoperative position (Fig. 3) under top bar 7 when the wearer desires to use the, clasp without the pin. A character istic of the specific pivotal connection disclosed is that neither the connection nor the pin is exposedto abrade the outer garment of the wearer when the pin is in its inopera tive position. the clasp are spaced apart when in closed position a distance which is shorter than the A. head 16 is secured to the free end I orro srorrnnenn,
The bottom and top bars of width of pin 12. Thus when the pin is in its." inoperative position it will be lockedagainst I displacement. I we I The clasp is appliedby separating bars 6 and 7 and inserting the lingerie shoulder straps therebetwe en. The bars are then sprung back into their closed position andpin 12 is inserted into the seam of the wearers pended claims, without departing from the i spirit and scope of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is: i
' 1. A clasp of the character described com 1 prising a flat metal retaining loop having a top bar, a tongue connected to said top bar and projecting laterally therefrom, and asafety pin pivotally connected to the tongue. i 2. A clasp of the character described com prising a retaining loop having atop bar, a
safety pin, a pivotalconnection between Said pin and loop, said connection being formed to permit the pin to be swung laterally under the top bar.
3. A clasp of the character described com- 6 prising a retaining loop having separable top and bottom bars, a safety pin, a pivotal connection between said pin and loop for permitting the pin to be swung laterally under the top bar, the distance between said bars being shorter than the width of the pin so that the pin maybe locked under the top bar when the bars are held in connected relation.
