A. M. GUNDERSON' WINDOW SASH HOLDER Filed Nov. 22, 1927 FEL Figi.
' A BY w ATTORNEY Patented Nov. 20, 1928.
. UNITED STATES ANTON M. GUNDERSON, OF IRONWOOD, MICHIGAN.
WINDOW-SASH HOLDER.
Application led November 22, 1927.
My invention relates to means to be appiled to a window frame and positioned in a. manner to hold the window sash raised.
The general object of my invention is to provide a simple and practical device for the indicated purpose and which is efficient in holding the sash.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, it being understood that the drawings are merely illustrative of one example of the invention. Y
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a Window sash holder embodying my invention illustrating the same in use on a window shown in part;
Figure 2 is a face view of the window sash holder;
Figure 3 is an edge view of my device applied, a portion of a window conventionally indicated in section; and
Figure 1 is a horizontal section on the line 4 4 vof Figure 2.
In carrying out my invention in practice in accordance with the illustrated example, a strip 10 usually of metal in practice is formed with a. vertical slot 11, and the upper and lower ends of such strip are thickened to form broad flanges 12 at the back or inner side of the strip. Said fianges receive screws 13 or equivalent fasteners. When the strip is secured in place the flanges serve to position the strip with a vertical clearance space 14 at the back for the sash holding means next referred to.
A turnable element 15 is formed at the inner side with a shoulder 16 and. is held by pivot means including an enlarged head 17 movable in clearance space 14, and a shank 18 movable in slot 11. Said shank extends through holder element 15 and has an Vupset head 19 to hold the parts assembled.
lVith the above described device, assuming the strip 10 to be secured to a Window frame A vertical along the jamb thereof, the
sash a may be held raised to the desired ex- Serial No 235,075.
tent by the element 15. The said element 15 is adapted to move up or down along slot 11. It is only necessary to raise the element 15 to the desired point according to the extent to which the window isto be maintained raised, and said element is turned so that an end thereof is disposed beneath the sash a. Tho weight of the window on the inner end of element 15 causes the outer end having shoulder 1G to bind against the side of the strip 10 thereby holding the window raised.
I would .state furthermore that while tht illustrated example constitutes a practical embodiment of my invention, I do not limit myself strictly to the exact details herein illustr'ated, since, manifestly, the same can be considerably varied without departure from the ,spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
l claim:
1. A sash holding means, including a strip adapted to be secured vertically on a window frame, and a sash holding element movable along said strip and vertically rockable,`said sash holding element having a lateral member adapted to bind against said strip at the side edge thereof when said element is projected beneath the window sash.
2. A window sash holder, including a strip adapted to be secured vertically to a window frame and having a vertical clearance space at the back, a pivot having an enlarged head movable in said clearance space, a shank extending outwardly from said head and movable along said strip, and an element vertically rockable on said shank, one end adapted to be projected beneath a window sash and having at a point outward of the said shank a 'lateral member presenting va l'shoulder' adapted to bind against said strip.
Signed at Ironwood, in the county of Gogebic and State of Michigan, this 14th day of November, A. D. nineteen hundred and twenty-seven.
