The invention relates to a novel and useful sanitary toot-h brush holder, and more especially to such a device cooperating with anyordinary style of tooth brush.
The objects and advantages of the invention ,will be set forth in p-art hereinafter and in part will be obvious to those employing the invention.
The accompanying drawings, referred to herein and constituting a part hereof, illustrate one embodiment of the invention, and together with the description, serve to explain the principles of the invention.
. Of the drawings Fig. 1 is a central vertical section through the holder and ,showing the brush with the bristles nested within the holder;
Fig. 2 is a central vertical section through the holder and showing the brush supported in an upright position by its handle;
Fig. 3 is a full horizontal section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. l; v
Fig. 4 is a full horizontal section taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3; and
Fig. 5 is an elevation of a modified form of the device;
Fig. 6 is a detail of a cover.
The primary purpose of the invention is to provide a tooth brush holder, which will cooperate with any form of handle of the usual tooth brushes found on the market, and which will automatically keep the tooth brush in elevated position, avoiding contamf ination through the brush lying on a shell or other support. In one of its features the invention also provides for storing `the brush with the bristles protected, as when traveling. In the present preferred embodiment, illustrated herewith byway of example, a holder 1 of preferably cylindrical form is provided having a base 2, the bottom portion 3 of which is of spheroidal form, and is rovided with an internal loading 4, where y the holderV will automatically take and retain a vertical or erect position. v
The holder may be constructed in any suitable manner, but is shownk herein with the eylindricalportion 1 preferably screwthreaded into the base 2 and with a resilient moisture proof gasket or washer 5 between these parts, which prevents thelea-kage or infiltration of moisture. The holder is likewise provided, if desired, with Ventilating openings 6. .i The tooth brush 7 is of ordinary form, and has bristles 8 and a handle 9. As indicated,
the holder 1, is preferably formed to alternatively hold the handle, as shown in Fig'. 2,. and thereby maintain the brush in upright position, or to receive the head or `bristle portion of the brush toprotect same for. traveling or otherwise packing the brush, as shown in Fig. 1. f
'lloeonstitute africtional fit for the handle, Q
and especially for handles o1E different shape or sizes, a resilient bushing 10 is provided, sufliciently elastic to receive internallyv handles of different sizes and shapesfthe bushing havying preferably at the endthereof a'highly .or other supports.
In Fig. 5 of the drawings, I have lshown a holder without the brush storage feature. In this i'orm the bottom portion 3 has two or more spring ingers 16 and 17 projecting npf wardly therefrom, these preferably having their ends turned slightly outwardly so 'that the brush handle may be easily slipped between them, the brush vertical position.
The cover shown in Fig. 6 may be used optionally. It is preferably of rubber or other being thereby held in, Y l
resilient material.' The flanged edge 2() iits into theftop of the holder and the recess Q1 lits about the brush handle.
It will be understood that the specific form ofthe device may be varied without departing from the invention. i i
lhat .I elaimis 1. A tooth brush holder having a base portion weighted to standort end and having anY openwended cylindrical bracing yand supporting portion screw-threaded thereon, a waterproof gasket therebetween and compressed by said screw threads, and a removable resilient bushing closed at one end, adapted to encircle a tooth brush handle, and at each end in fric.
tional engagementV with the interior wall of said cylindrical portion, said cylindrical portion and bushing being, substantially, atleast l as long as the bristle portion of a tooth brush providing `an extended tooth brush gripping portion. Y
2. tooth brush holder having a base porwith a flange for closingr the cylindrical. portion, the intermediate portion of the bushing beingT spaced away from the cylindrical support.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my naine to this Specification.
FREDERICK REICH.
