UNITED STATES PATENT Frior SAMUEL SHUL'IZ, OF MOSCOW, KENTUCKY.
IMPROVEMENT IN HAMEs.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 168,793, dated October 1l, 1875 application filed l March 25, 1875. i
To all whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL SHULTZ, of Moscow, in the county of Hickman and in the State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Haines 5 and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making apart of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a hamefastening, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to `make and use the saine, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a haine embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a view of Figs. 3 and 4L are detached views of certain parts thereof.
. A represents an ordinary wooden haine, in the under side of which is let in and fastened aplate, B, provided on its inner side with a series of transverse grooves, a a. The front edge of the haine is cut beveled, and lined with a strip, b, of sheet metal the saine length as the plate B. C is the book to which the hame-tug is fastened, which hook is hinged to a three-sided metallic frame, D, of such size Y as to it around the front edge and outer and inner sides of the haine. The inner side of the frame D forms two prongs, d d, which fit in any two of the grooves a in the under side of the plate B. On the outer side of the frame D, close to the hinge which connects it to the hook O, is a spring-catch, f, which enters notches c in the outer face of the hame A to hold the frame from becoming detached. The -frame D may be raised and lowered at will, so as `to adjust the height at which the hametng is attached to the haine. In the outer` edge of the haine A, near the upper end, are made transverse grooves wx to receive one cross-bar of asquare link, E, said cross-bar being made round, as shown. The grooves in the haine are covered by means of a pivotal plate, G, which is held fast by a springcatch, l1.. By these means the upper connection of the two haines may be adjusted up and down at will.
` Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
. The combination of the haine A, plate B, with grooves a, hook C, frame D, with prongs d, and spring-catch j", substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth. V
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 15th day of February, 1875.
f i SAMUEL SHULTZ.
