Description

J. P. N'ESSLE. Fruit-Drier. No.168 769 Patented Oct'.11,1875.
UNrrnn STATES PAT NT rncna JOHN r. NESSLE, or NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
IMPRQVEMENT IN FRUIT-DRIERS.
Specification farming part otLetters Patent No. 168,769, dated October 11, 1875; application filed September 30, 1875.
To all whom it may concern: i
Be it known that I, JOHN P. NESSLE, of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented 'certain new and useful Improvements in Fruit-Driers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of .a tray for fruitdriers, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of my fruittray. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of a handle used with the same.
A represents a rectangular wooden frame, of any suitable dimensions, through which are passed longitudinally a series of parallel Wires, B B
In the construction of this tray I prefer to have an even number of wires every two of which are made of one piece, bent in the center, and passed through holes in the end pieces of the frame, whereby they can be easily removed in case of breakage, and others inserted.
The wires B B are also passed through metal slides C O, which are at their ends provided with tongues b b to rest in grooves or on offsets a a formed in the side pieces of the frame, to prevent sagging of the wires.
When the "frames are piled up one on another, the working parts will bebelow the face of the frames and hence no bending or twisting of said working parts is likely to ensue.
By means of the slides O O the fruit can be scraped off easily and thoroughly, with little or no breaking of the same, and in a few seconds of time.
To move the slides back and forth a handle is used, constructed, as shown in Fig. 3, of a plate, D, cut and bent to form prongs, and provided with a wire, E, the prongs fitting over the upper edge of the slide.
Having thus fully described my invention, what 1 claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. The combination of the frame A, having grooves or oft'sets a Ct, the parallel wires B B, and slides C C having tongues b I), substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. The pronged handle D E, in combination with the slides G O and tray A B, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN P. NESSLE.
