UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
JAMES HUFFMAN, OF MOUNT CRAWFORD, AND JOSEPH FUNKHOUSER, ,OF KEEZLETOWN, VIRGINIA.
IM PROVEMENT IN TABLE-TONGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 197,372, dated November 20, 1877; application filed September 27, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, J AMES HUFFMAN, of Mount Crawford, Rockingham county, Virginia, and JOSEPH FuNKHoUsEE, of Keezletown, in the county of Rockingham, and in the State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Table-Outlery; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of our invention consists in the peculiar construction of an implement to be used as table-tongs, which will be hereinafter more fully described.
To enable those skilled in the art to make and use our invention, we will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
In the accompanying drawing, making part of this specification, the figure represents a perspective of our invention.
This implement is formed of a single piece of spring-steel or other suitable metal, and somewhat in the shape of a pair of sugar-tongs, for table purposes, as will be seen.
A represents the body of the implement, and B B two pieces formed on said body for thumb and finger pieces. The two ends or jaws of the implement are provided with V- shaped notches O, which are opposite each other. The metal is perfectly flat from O to a: on the jaws, so that they (the jaws) may fit snugly together.
The object of this implement is to hold chicken or other bones while eating, as well as to pick out fish-bones. The bone, while eating, is held firmly in the notches O C. When not used for holding bones while the flesh is being picked ofl, the flat part from G to m serves to catch and remove fish-bones.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The spring-body A, provided with jaws, in which are the notches O C, and on which are formed the surfaces from O to m, as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing we have hereunto set our hands this 23d day of August, 1877.
JAMES HUFFMAN. JOSEPH FUNKHOUSER. Witnesses:
FRANK GALT, B. R. Ross.
