vice which keeps it taut at all times.
fact with the taperoll.
Other important and incidental objects will be brought out in the following specification, and particularly set forth in the subjoined claims.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating my invention, Figure l is a perspective View of my tape moistcning device, showing the felt moistening belt and the gravity tensionii'ig device. And Figure 2 is a longitudinal. sectional view taken through the same.
Referring to theaccompanying drawings for a detailed description of my invention,
the numeral 1 designates an elongated casting formed with feet 2. At its rear end the casting 1 is formed with a rounded hollow portion 3 to receive a roll of tape 4 that is gummed on its underside. This tape is brought forwardly over a fiat top 5 of the casting and under a conventional knife 6 which is preferably secured to the top .by screws 7.
For the purpose of automatically tensioning the tape 4.- to keep it taut at all times, the following means is provided. Formed in the top of each side of thecasting 1 near its flat top 5, is a notch 8. Freely rotatable in these notches 8, Sare the trunnion ends 9, 9 of the legs 10, 10 respectively of a tensioning plate 11 that is held by gravity in tensioning con- The under surface of this plate is curved to conform to the curvature of the tape roll-to case its frictional contact with the latter.
For the purpose of moistening the ta e t I have provided a belt 12 which is made 0.; felt Serial No. 96,846.
or other suitable material. This belt is connected at its free ends for movement around a cross member 13 between the top parts of the sides of the casting in front of the knife 6. This cross member is above the level of a quantity of water which the front part ofthe casting is formed to receive.
Against the soft surface of the top of the belt 12 the gummed surface of the tape 4 is adapted to be pressed for moistening purposes. After a portion of the belt has been exposed to the tape for a desired length of time, the belt may be turned by the fingers to submerge its used surface in the water for cleaning and re-moistening without the necessity of removing it from the machine.
I do not wish to be limited to the details of construction and arrangement herein shown and described, and any changes or modifications may be made therein within the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. In a device of the'type described, the combination with an elongated channel memher having a tape-roll receiving compartment in one end thereof, a knife at the other end of said oh annel'member. and under which the tape is adapted to be drawn, said channel on its undersurface to rest upon the tape-roll .to tensionit and having legs formed with trunnion ends to enter said recesses, for the purpose specified. 2. In a device of the type described, the combination with an elongated channel menu ber having a tape-roll receiving compartment in one end thereof, a knife at the other end of said channel member and under which the tape is adapted to be drawn, and a gravity plate pivotally secured to the top portion of the channel member between the knife and the tape-roll to rest upon the latter to tension it. p
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand thisiil day of March, 192 6, Y
