IMPROVEMENT IN HORSE-COLLARS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 168,723, dated October 11, 1875; application filed July'14, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELIPHALET B. CRAW- FORD, of Sioux City, Woo'dbury county, Iowa, have invented a Horse-Collar, of which the following is a specification: I
My invention consists in the novel construction of a horse-collar, hereinafter described.
A A in the drawing represent a collar, in two sections, made of wood or other hard ma terial, the lower ends of which are connected by a hinge-joint, as seen at H. The upper ends or top, when closed, form a shouldered or lap joint, similar to a scarf-joinn the inner horse, instead of the top, thereby dispensing with the use of pads, which is necessary in all other collars. B and O in the drawing represent the lap-joint referred to. D represents a spring-tongue, attached to the top of the collar at E, the said tongue having a ,projection, F, which enters an opening or notch, G,
I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Pat- 1. In a collar composed of two hinged sections of hard material, the shouldered top, in combination with a suitable fastening, as described.
' 2. The spring catch or fastening, in combination with the shouldered and lapping sections of a horse-collar, composed of hard material, substantially'as described.
