Description

c. D; & R. HAZARD.
Hames.
No, 125,675' Patented Apr1'6, 1872.
CLARK D. HAZARD AND RUSEL HAZARD, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN HAMES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 125,675, dated April 16, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, C. D. HAZARD and Rosin. HAZARD, of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and Sta-te of Ohio, have invented a certain new and Improved Haine; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full,
clear, and complete description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making part of the same.
Srncrrronfrrou.
Figures l, 2, and 3 are side views of the upper end of the haine, havin g attached there.a to thc improvement. Fig. i is a. detached section.
Like letters of reference refer to like parts in the several views.
This invention has for its object the. fast-ening together of the upper ends of the haines in such Way that said fastening may be so adjusted as to adapt the haines to the neck of the horse or horses, and to t the collar more snugly in connection with which it may be used. 0f said invention the following is a more full and complete description, and is an improvement of an invention for which e pat- A ent was granted to me September l0, 1861.
In the drawing, Fig. l, A represents the Wood part of the home, which is or may be of the ordinary shape. B is an iron band covering the end for its strength and protection. The inside part of the band is perforated with a series of holes, C, the purpose of which will presently be shown. D is a ring looselyr fitted to the haine, so that it will slide thereon the length of the series of holes. E is a block, a detached View of which is shown in Fig. 4, in which figure it will be seen that one sidethereof is hollowed out, so that the ring D referred to will fit therein, as shown in Fig. l; and that on the opposite side is a nib, F, of a size to t the holes C, and in which it is-lodged when in connection with the heine, as shown in Fig. l.
The practical use of the above-described device is as follows: The strap G, whereby the two parts of the llame are connected, is passed through the ring D. Between the strap and the haine is inserted the block E, in such relation to the haine end strap that said strap is held in the hollouV ofthe block and the nib is received into one of the holes, as shown in Fig. 1. By this device the ring cannot slip on the haine, as the nib of the block holds it in place, and the thickness of the strap prevents the nib from coming out of the hole 5 hence the strap is securely held in its attachment with the haine.
The advantage of this device is that the strap crosses from haine to haine liatwisc, and will therefore lie more closely upon the horses collar than if it passed across edgewise, as in the old Way; and it looks much heater than that shown in my patent, for in that manner of fastening the holes for the admission of the nib (which is on a. ring, and not on ablock) are on the outside of the heme, and therefore in sight, which mars the appearance of the hanne; but in this, my present invention, the plain side ofthe band is on the outside, making the haine look much heater and of a. better nish.
Claim.
What We claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The ring D, block E, and nib F, in combination with the home A and strop Gr, substantiallyas and for the purpose specified.
