Description

B. HARRIS. Horse-Collar.
No. 216,087. Patented June 3,1879
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ABRAHAM HARRIS, OF SPEEDWELL, VIRGINIA.
IMPRCVEMENT IN HORSE-COLLARS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 216,087, dated June 3, 1879; application filed March 10, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM B. HARRIS, of Speedwell, in the county of Wythe and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in HorseGollars; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appert-ains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the aecompanyin g drawings, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a front view. Fig. 2 is a side view; and Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sec tion.
O0116S1)0ll(1ll1g1)&1i3$ in the several figures are denoted by like letters of reference.
This invention relates to wooden horse-collars and it consists in certain improvements in the construction of the bolt by which the two parts or halves of such collars are hinged together, which will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, A B are the two halves or sections of the collar, which are hinged together at the top, the ends of the hinge-bolt 0 being curved so as to form hooks or loops 0 c, for attachment of the check-rein and backstrap. i
The sections A B are formed of wood, each being suitably beveled upon the rear side to conform to the shape of the horses neck, and
having a rim, 1%., formed upon the front side, so as to form a broad bearing-surface for the neck of the animal without adding materially 'to the weight of the device, and without the disadvantages caused by using pads.
Each side of the collar is provided with a clevis, D, in which the tug-hook E is adjustably secured by a bolt, F.
G G are the rings to which the breast-chain is secured, and rings H H are provided for the reins.
A suitable strap or hame-fastening device is used for securing the lower ends of the collar together, as represented in the drawings.
If desirable, a pad may be used in connection wit-h my improved horse-collar; but this is not necessary.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- In a horse-collar consisting of two parts hinged together at their upper ends, the hingebolt 0, having the ends curved to form books or loops 0 c, substantially as and for the purpose berein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto afiixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
A.B.- HARRIS.
