CALVIN M. LANE AND MATHEW C. FRANKLIN, OF LOCKHART, TEXAS.
' IMPROVEMENT IN SADDLE-TREE FORKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 203,626, dated May 14, 1878; application filed March 22, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we CALVIN M. LANE and MATHEW C. FRANKLIN, of Lockhart, in the county of Caldwell and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Saddle-Tree Fork, of which the following is a specification Figure 1 is a vertical section of our improved saddle-tree fork. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same, taken through the line w as, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detached perspective view of a modified form of the pommel.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved saddle-tree fork, which shall be simple in construction, light, and durable, and which may be readily adjusted as a Texas saddle-tree or a muley saddle-tree.
The invention consists in an improved saddle-tree fork, formed of a cast malleableiron fork, the detachable wooden pommel, and the wooden side pieces, as hereinafter fully described.
A is the body of the tree, which is cast of malleable iron, of the proper shape and size.
Upon the upper forward part of the bow of the tree is formed a seat for the pommelB, which has dowel-pins attached to its lower side, to fit into holes formed in the said tree, and which is secured in place by bolts C, passing through the said pommel and tree, as
shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The outer side of the arms of the tree are cut away, forming wide dovetailed grooves, into which are fitted wooden plates D.
This construction makes the tree lighter, and also serves for more conveniently securing the cover of the saddle to the said tree.
In case a muley saddle is required, the pommel B is detached by removing the bolts C, and a muley pommel, E, is secured in its place. This construction also enables a saddle-tree to be provided with any kind of a pommel the buyer may wish.
By this construction a light, strong, and durable saddle-tree is formed, which may be covered and finished in the usual way.
In case a ladys saddle is required, awroughtiron horn is attached to the tree in the same manner as the scribed.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- An improved metal saddle-tree fork provided with the detachable wooden pommel B and the wooden side pieces, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
