Description

INVENTOR Herman L. fireve H. L. GREVIE MAILING WRAPPER FOR PHOTOGRAPHS Flled July 16, 192'? llfll All Patented rt. 2, ltdd.
HERMAN GREVE,O1F BEQUELYIKF, NEW YORK.
MAILING WRAPPER EUR PI-XUTUGEAPHK Application. filed July 16,
My invention relates to mailing wrappers for photographs, etc.
lhe object of my invention is to provide a mailing device for photographs and cards, etc, that will prevent the photograph from shifting its position in the wrapper, and protect the picture from abrasion or injury in. handling the wrapper or in its transmission through the mail.
Referring to the drawings which form a part of this specification:
Fig. 1 is an illustrational perspective view of the parts comprising my improved wrapper before they are connected together.
Fig. 2 is a perspective View of a. wrapper in its open position with a photograph resting therein, as it appears prior to closing the flap portion of the wrapper.
Fig. 3 is a wrapper shown closed and locked ready for mailing.
Fig. 4 is a cross sectional view taken on line H of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a view of a modified form of the sheet portion of the wrapper.
A, indicates the outer casing of the wrapper, made of rather stiff flexible card-board and folding into a rectangular shape as illustrated in Fig. 3. The blank is scored along the dotted lines A on each side to permit the flap portion BB and C-C respectively to bend along these lines to form the receptacle.
A stiff corrugated straw-board plate D eX- tends over the gummed surface E of the wrapper to secure the plate to the Wrapper.
llhe upper surface of the plate is gummed as indicated at D to hold a thin strong and rather stiff sheet of paper E, the corner portions E of which serve as flaps which are folded over the sides and ends of the photograph E, to protect its edges, and to hold the photograph, regardless of its size, firmly in the middle of the wrapper. If the photograph is smaller than that shown in the drawing, the flap portion E, are turned in further to embrace the card, and are held in fixed position by the flap portions E and C, of the wrapper, which fold over and hold them firmly against the photograph along the edge portions where they contact with the photograph card and prevent the card from shifting.
Metal clips lf' ll respectively are secured 1927. Serial No. 206,225.
to the flap portions B-B respectively, and the flap portions G-C are provided with holes G-G thru which the clips pass and are bent to hold the flaps together.
In Fig. 5, the sheet E is slitted on the two median lines passing through the ends and sides of the said sheet, being indicated by H and extending from the outer edges toward the center thereof as illustrated, to permit a relatively small. card ll, shown in dotted lines, to be held by the flaps.
By slitting the sheet in the above manner, cards of irregular form and size may be more securely held, since the flaps E may overlap each other in folding over on the card. The novel feature of improvement is the use of the sheet E and the advantages obtained by its form and use as above set forth.
Having thus described my invention, what ll claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A mailing wrapper comprising a casing, a stilf plate port-ion, a thin flexible sheet having flaps of less length than said plate and secured thereto at the centre only, to permit the ends and sides of said sheet to be folded over toward each other to embrace all of the edges of a card of less length and width than that of said plate.
2. A mailing wrapper comprising a cardboard casing having end and side flaps, a stifl plate connected to said casing and covering one side thereof, a thin flexible sheet having flaps of less length than said plate and secured thereto at the centre thereof only, to permit the ends and sides of said sheet to be folded over toward each other to embrace the edges of a card of less length and width than that of said plate, the end and side flaps of the casing being adapted to fold over the ends and sides of the plate and form a. closed cas- 111 3. A mailing wrapper comprising an outer casing having end. and side flaps, a stiff plate secured thereto, a thin flexible sheet having flaps of less length than said plate and secured to said plate at its centre only, and having its ends and sides slitted whereby the flaps of said. sheet may be folded over toward each other to embrace the edges of a card of less length and width than said plate and sheet, the end and side flaps of said casing being adapted to fold completely over the ends and sides of the folded sheet and card.
4. A mailing wrapper comprising a plate portion of stiff corrugated straw-board, a card-board casing enclosing said plate and 5 scored adjacent the edges of same, a thin flexible sheet secured to said plate at the centre thereof only and having its sides and ends slitted toward the centre to form flap portions Which may be folded over to engage the edges of a card of relatively smaller size than that of said plate, the end and side flaps of the casing being formed to fold completely over the flaps of said sheet and card and haw ing fastening means to secure the casing flaps together.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
