RAZOR-BLADE HOLDER.
' Application filed August a5, 1926. Serial No. 131,472..
This invention. relates to improvements in handle or holder means tor tools and has pari ticular reference to a holder tor safety razor blades that can be readily used for a rippin or scraping action.
The principal object ot the invention is to provide an economically and simply constructed device of the character described wherein the handle portion of the same can be utilized not only iior the purpose o t comi'ortably and conveniently holding the device duringl the ripping; or scraping` operation, but also servingv as a sheath tor the blade.
@ther objects and advantages will be apparent during;v the co urse Oil, the following description.
ln the accompanying drawings lormino1 a part et this specification, and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts th rou gli out the same,
Figure l is a side elevation of the device constructed in accordance with my invention and showing the blade in an inoperative positiom ligure 2 is a similar view showingl the blade in an operative position,
lfigure l is a transverse vertical section through the device on the line 3-3 oit Figure 1 and liglurela longitudinal section on the line lr-l ot Figure 3.
After a razor blade has been utilized for a shaving operation, the same is ordinarily discarded. `While the cutting edge will not suiiice tor its primary object namely the shaving; operation, nevertheless, there is present sutlicient cutting' edge th at can be utilized vfor many domestic uses. llowever, in the use ol a razor blade, some .n'ieans for retain intr the san'ie in the hand must be provided and where there is no such means, injury or a cutting et the fingers of the user will result.
l have therefore devised a simply constructed razor blade holder which will secure ly retain the blade therein and will eliminate the danger of an accident duringany desired use of the blade.
lin the accompanyingdrawings wherein tor the purpose oi? illustration is shown a pre terred embodiment oi my invention the numeral 5 designates a razor blade of the Gem type provided with. the usual folded top 6 and cutting edge 7, which blade is rigidly -gripped within a tubular handle member 8 preterably formed of stamped sheet met-ll which can be easily bent or folded to the desired shape, the inherent elasticity oit the metal serving' to grip the blade and the top9 to prevent displacement of the same.
As shown to advantage in Figures 3 and 4, the numeral 9 designates .a metal blank of sheet metal having its body portion of substantially rectangular conformation and having` integrally Jformed therewith a longitudinal extension l0.
lt is to be noted that the upper extremity ot the body portion and likewise the eX- tension are 'folded or bent to provide a. tubular portion et a larger diameter than the diameter of the tubular member and in which the referred to member 8 is slidably mounted.
The lower extremity oli the body portion oit the blank is iolded upon itseltv so as to provide a flap l2 which serves as a guard for the exposed edge of the blade.
ln order that displacement olE the blade holdingl member from the handle portion may be eliminated l propose to secure to the tubular extension ofthe body member a thin metal strip 13 which is lolded at its extrem ities to provide intiiirned ends lll and 15 which are secured within the tubular 1n cmber.
rllhe strip so employed limits the longitudinal movement i: the handle portion with relation to the blade holding;1 portion and is best illustrated in Figure Q.
lin assen'ibling the device the blade is first inserted in the tubular member 8 which in turn is positioned within the tubular portion oli the guard member portion ot the device. The metal strip l?) is then secured at its ends to the tubular member and the device thus assembled.
lin the operation oit the device when it is desired to expose the blade `for use, it is only necessary to actu atc the tubular member 8 so that the same will. slide within the tubular portion of the guard and the blade canthen be conveniently exposed 'for use as illustrated to advantage in Figure 2. Y
lllrom the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying` drawing;- it will be evident that ll have devised an eilicient holder for a razor blade which can be readily used for many domestic purposes s uch as rippingor cutting cloth, for any desired scrapie action or in tact tor any li `eht household work requiring a heen cutting` edge.
lt is to be understood that the 'form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example et the same sie tubular razor blade Carrying member slidably positioned in the tubular portion of sa id blank and means carried by said blade carrying:T member for limiting its lateral niovement relative to said blank, said means comprising a metal strip in parallelism with said tubular member :1nd having its extremities connected thereto.
In testimony Wliereol I allix my signature.
