Description

Patentecl May 6, 1930 UNITED S'I'ATES i 'ATENT F'FlC'IE Application led. May 20, 1929. Serial No. 364,533.
lhis invention relates to improvements in cutters, and it has more particular reference to a device of this class which is especially designed for cutting linoleurn, oil-cloth and the like.
One object of the invention is to generally improve upon devices of this class, in
that it provides a cutter about the size and weight of an ordinary knife, but operated with a rotary disk blade that will ride a line Or mark upon the material which is drawn between a bar and the handle holding the cutter, into this rotary cutter, making the operation simple and safe to any person using the same.
Other objects and advantages of the iniprovement will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to clesignate like parts throughout the same:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a cutter constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Figure P) is a view of the wedge shaped, slotted guard, vertical and longitudinal, that is placed under material, which is thereby CELI'* ried against the rotary knife.
Figure 4: shows a vertical view Of the rotary knife, as liz .ed to the pulling handle and riding in slotted guard.
In carrying out my invention .I employ a small grip handle, 1 into which is inserted a metal strip or bar to which is attached a small rotary disk blade 2, by means of a screw 8. At the end of this metal strip is another strip 5 forming an arm, to which is attached the slotted guard and guide 6, the blade 2 riding in this slotted guide.
In the operation of the cutter the material 7 is placed between the guide or guard 6 and. the cutter is then drawn towards the Operator, the rotary disk knife 2 riding any line or mark on the material. The material being carried rearward against the blade in the wedge shaped opening formed between the guard 6 and the metal bar, in this manner a straight line, if needed, may be followed, the guard 6 keeping the material engaged with the knife when it is pulled forward on the material. The metal strip 5 holds the slotted guard 6 in place and also separates the material being cut.
The feature of this invention is that it provides a safe, small, cheap tool used for cutting linoleum or other similar material, enabling the operator to cut to any line, pattern or mark that may be placed on the material, also that the rotary disk blade is at- 6 tached with a screw and nut and can be readily removed for sharpening and replaced.
From the foregeing description taken in Connection with the accompanying drawings, the effectiveness of the invention is readily understood, therefore further description is deemed unnecessary.
I claim:
in a device of the kind described, a handle, a supporting arm projecting forwardly from said handle, a disk Cutter rotatably mounted on said arm, a combined guard and guide member secured to the free end portion of said arm and extending rearwardly beyond said disk cutter, said member having a slotted portion into which an arc of the cutter extends, and said member being tapered to read ily pass under the stock.
In testmony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
LOUIS ISNKIELA.
