Description

F. L. BLAKELY.
Lap Robe.
No, 168,315, Patented Oct. 5,1875.
Witnesses: ff 1 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERICK L. BLAKELY, OF CLINTON, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN LAP-ROBES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 168,315, dated October 5, 1875; application filed March 3, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK L. BLAKE- LY, of Clinton city, in the county of Clinton and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lap-Robes and Horse-Blankets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact-description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a perspective view, with the corners of the outside and middle turned down. Fig. 2 is an edge view.
My invention relates to an improved horseblanket or lap-robe, consisting of such a blanket or robe made with a layer of oil-silk, rubber cloth, or other material impervious to air and water, placed between two layers of ordinary cloth, and quilted or stitched together.
In the drawing, D represents the upper covering, and E the under covering, and F represents the layer of oil-silk, or other impervious material, placed between the outer coverings, and quilted or stitched together, in fancy or plain designs.
The outer coverings may be of lighter materials than are now used for lap-robes, and hence may be made cheaper than the ordinary robe, while by the middle lining it is rendered more impervious to-the cold and dampness than robes made of the heaviest cloths.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- As a new article of manufacture, an improved lap-robe consisting of the coverings D E, of any suitable cloth, and the middle piece F, of 0il-silk, or other fabrics impervious to air and water, all stitched together, and constructed substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own invention I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
W. W. SANBORN, J. B. CRAWFORD.
